Agraucred, chants are useful in RvR ... but they do need some bonuses. The heal chant can be used to (1) compensate for DoT's; (2) twist and get double healing during 1v1 battles (beaten a few people that way, hi Death :) ) ; (3) When minstrel pets resist it auto heals the minstrel.

Damage chant is self explanatory, very useful in a tank group.

Group armour buff is also self explanatory and quite nice.

The resists chants are okay, if not brilliant. Certainly useful when some bloody mage has got you and your party targetted at distance and is casting at you.

i realise the points you are making and understand that chants could be reasonably useful, but i think it will be pretty much useless speccing it high when parry is fully implemented in RvR.

also, to jamza, speccing master of parry with your RP's is not going to be as good as actually speccing in parry... sure it will give you that extra 3% chance per spec... but thats not much compared to actually speccing parry higher. the way i see it in RvR and from my experience is that it gets that hectic that there often isnt time for switching chants or twisting, ive also never been in a 1on1 situation and yes i have spent quite abit of my /play time on the frontiers. that is why im going for parry as my defense instead of chants, at least that is automatic. all im waiting for is parry to be properly set into the game and PvP combat, and yes i can wait, i stil have 8 seasons to go yet ;)

for peeps saying pally`s are gimps well...
tell that to the 2 hibbie hero`s i faught on saturday
1 was sword and shield (celt)
1 had a great big hammer(firby)

basically they ambushed em and my cleric colleague at AMG in emain they also had a bard with em who mezzed me and ran off after the cleric leaving me standing at AMG alone against 2 orange con tanks ..gulp...

still i got 1 down to 25% life and thats after he used his insta heal real ability or whatever (his life jumped from 10% to 90%)

only thing that killed me was attrition and the bard returning to help them

if i was level 50 aswell as them and had another level 50 pally with me we`d have owned those 2 hero`s did someone say shield hero`s are unbeatable?

oh yeah my spec..
43 slash(+7)
45 chants
30 shield (+7)
10 parry (+5)

Agraucred, 30 chants gimps your Paladin hugely. 36 chants should be the minimum for any self respecting Paladin. If you really want to be able to parry and hit hard you would be better off rolling a merc.

Our dexterity doesn't increase very much as we level so if you want to get the most out of any parrying skills you will need to invest heavily in augmented dexterity, even then you won't parry as well as, for example, Tieris.

You would be surprised how often 1v1 situations arise in RvR. I've never duelled, and never will do -- but so far I have encountered - a hero; a hunter; a skald; a berzerker and a shadowblade in 1v1 situations. And beaten all of them, not bad for a 49 chant sword/shield Paladin is it? :)

i looked into that and decided that maybe 36chants could be useful (new heal, self shield, and dmg buffs) and take parry down to 28. but i still think that paladins do parry well and it is very usefull. im just glad i am still in a position to alter my intentional spec... who knows, i may mess on catacombs some more and make more changes, like 20parry 40slash and 36chants, feel the pain ;)
