Pain, an Emotion or Sense?

after watching the latest episode of Ghost Whisper, from America... i discovered one of old favourite bands(3 Days Grace) has released a new Album/Single, titled Pain... this got me wondering(i have weird thoughts like this)

Pain,
an Emotional response to a physical action, ofc Emotional pain is an Emotion
or
your body letting you know its in distress(not 'dis dress>.<), a Sense... baring in mind we don't have 5 senses, we have 30+ to name 2, Equilibrium and knowing where the light switch is when you cant see

i believe its Emotional, let me take a moment to explain...

when someone touches you, you sense its presents... its heat, pulse, velocity and shape
but when your in pain, you also sense its presents... heat, pulse, velocity and shape

the only difference in this case would be velocity(taking a punch, and a gentle fist tap)... and i cant think of any reason why the velocity would matter in your physical response...

pain can never be a emotion, u can get emotions FROM pain, but it isnt a emotion in itself.

There's also the pain that you can feel in your head (for example headache), but there's no nerves in the brain that can transmit the sence of pain (nerve cells? sorry English is not my mother tongue).

I recently participated in an experiment about pain - sense or emotion, as my father took a Master degree in Psychology (or something). I don't remember what the result was, so I'll ask him next time I get in touch with him (if I remember).

i just watched a doco about EB(some rediculas name, but it like being permanently sunburned and you skin peels and you get open sores)
and i believe it wields the answer
i will explain as fully as possible

about 100 years ago break troughs in medical science occurred and we discovered, that different parts of the brain did different things, in this case we are focusing on the back of the brain, and the left side of the brain(more specifically the bit right on the side in the centre)

be first bit(back) part of the brain is involved in emotional pain like friends and family dying ect.. this is the bit were not really interested in for this topic

and the left bit... it is involved with physical pain... when you get cut or something neurons fire around the general area(of the brain) giving you a sense(bad choice of words, bare with me) of pain
endorphins, ill explain what these are before continuing... they are a chemical used in the brain to control emotions, like happiness and anger... ok now back on topic
people with EB(or anyone that suffers constant pain) develop a high threshold for pain, related to their specific condition, ie EB people are relatively numb, however, if they need an injection they still feel that like me and you...
what happens when you experience pain, endorphins are pumped around your brain making us feel pain... whereas with EB sufferers... the endorphins don't get activated when you brush you itch or something(well they do but in allot smaller quantity's)

so its like i said, an emotional response to a physical action
