Why do people insist on punctuating ever other sentence with :p these days ?
Not just on here, though its true here too, but even on servers as well.
Does it make people feel clever ? I bloody hate it . It just makes the poster look like a smug twat :/

/rant over !

its like the 1337 phase, the tbh phase, etc.

It will die out soon.

Start peppering your speech with weird words and soon it will spread across the intraweb.

Yeah, but doing :p is a clear way of showing sarcasm, or that whatever you've said is not to be taken seriously.

I like it, especially on servers. Makes it clear that you're up for a laugh with people.

I dont think it shows sarcasm, more a smug self-indulgence really.
Its saying "look , i know this thing, you dont aint I clever ?"
Oh well, at least its a new thread to post in :p

See ???? That one was just fucking meaningless !!

Also annoying is when people use either the wrong punctuation marks (exclamation mark when asking a question). Or worse is when people feel the need to use many question marks for one question, possibly thinking they are highlighting or accentuating the question but are in fact just looking silly.

Know what I mean???

Anybody disagree!

I'm with summo on this one, I use it to indicate a 'light-hearted feel' to the previous sentance. It's trying to ensure that your post is understood. As for sticking my tongue out in real life. I only ever do it when messing around with a mate. I dunno why but we seem to always end of fighting like pre-teen siblings. (without the 'I'm telling mommy')

as for the tbh thing. I'm doing it as well, :uhoh:

You've probably noticed I use it alot. The reason for this is because if you make a point, then don't use a :) or :p people think you are showing off or something, and then take a defensive stance on you. By using a :p it shows your only 1/2 serious.

:p

It's actually "the greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist" (it does matter. :(

And "you're".

And how is it showing off not to use a smilie at the end of a post? It either indicates that you're serious (and there isn't a smilie of a stern-looking face) or that you just don't care what people think. :)

Just yesterday I was wondering why writers on the net, especially those in or associated with marketing, use exclamation marks so frequently.
I mean, they're professional writers yet they cant express themselves with words and have to rely on punctuation to string a sentence together.
I saw something yesterday that had 17 sentences and 12 of them ended with exclamation marks.

I have to say that whilst the constant use of smilies of some sort can get irksome, they at least convey a more specific message than the generic and increasingly meaningless exclamation mark.

Yeah but what if you want to convey that you are smug and superior?

:p

;)

If you really were superior then you wouldn't need a smilie to show it, people would just know. :)

Tbh, i think you're wrong throd. I agree with Summo, instead i see the rolleyes smiley to be infinitely more smug. I feel like i want to set rabid peadophiles on them with 12" spiked strapons to savage them.

rolleyes 4 teh loose m8's kekekeke
