Hi guys,

me saying buh-bye for a little while, as I am flying to Australia this coming morning for a wee holiday! So, for the coming 8 weeks or so I may be posting about local Oz beers, the consuming of barbecued food, and other things that I see as I pootle about the west and east coasts of down-under and occasionally hit upon an internet cafe here and there.

First big long trip I'll be doing with the gf, so wish us luck, as atm my work has a pool going on me coming back married, a daddy to be, both or single, with the marriage or preggers thing taking turns at the top spot

ooo and if I can find some of the better places I went I will PM you. Had a really good ayers rock trip, including camping out in the bush with nothing but sleeping bags and a camp fire, and making didgeridoos on a cattle farm. Don't forget to go diving as well, it's quite cheap in Oz. Do it in byron bay rather than cairns though.

Internet cafes are offensively expensive in Australia; all part of the backpacker service I used the Gloria Jean's coffee shops and Starbucks for wi-fi when I could, it was cheaper.

Most ridiculous road evah. Made me laugh when Aussies would bleat on the telly about the terrible road carnage at Christmas, yeah its because your roads are rubbish. Build a motorway ffs.

Aussie roads are worse. The Pacific Highway is the main route from Queensland to NSW and for huge stretches its two lane or occasional 2+1s. If there's an accident you can get traffic jams literally 100's of KMs long (I got stuck in one). Fact is, Australia has way higher road deaths/100,000 than the UK despite much lower population and population density. The cops enforce speeding far more severely than the UK (5Km over the limit and your done) and the drivers don't particularly seem better or worse, so the shit roads have a lot to answer for.

Are you kidding? Their driving is much worse. All aussie men have boy racer syndrome. When I was staying there, there were 3 serious car accidents in 2 months at the end of the road we were at in Sydney.

Are you kidding? Their driving is much worse. All aussie men have boy racer syndrome. When I was staying there, there were 3 serious car accidents in 2 months at the end of the road we were at in Sydney.

It's cos we aussies have proper car's v8's and proper imported jap car's not these shitty lil saxo's n shit. And yes have to agree our roads are shite, no point even bothering to outrun the highway cops, their cars are supremely faster than the average aussie car

Other than that can't wait to go back home for the xmas hols.

heh troo dat. some of the engines here are huge by dutch standards. 4ltr V8's and stuffs like that. also, Oz highway cops cars look like spaceships tbh, only thing missing was warp nacells mounted on the sides! I've been stopped for a routine booze test a few weeks ago, the cop didn't care about anything as long as I'd not been drinking he looked me in the eye and said "Do you have a license?" and I looked back and said "Yes officer" and all was well
