Funny story. I like the idea of a burglar saying that he is dying, and an 80 year old women saying "Good".:)

No sympathy for the bloke, if the old women had met him without him being in that situation, she'd have been betaen badly or even killed

What if she just left him to die?

She would probably be done for murdering him

There is no law (outside of maritime law) obliging you to help someone in trouble, so she could have left him there without fear of retribution.

Reminds me of something that happened to a mate of mine at school a couple of years ago. He was bunking off a lesson and was trying to climb over the fence to get out of the school ground except he slipped and impaled his bollock on one of the spikes on the fence.

He then had to go see the school nurse, I wish I had have been there to see him explain how it happened :)

Just to make it clear.

If someone broke into my house I would (if I could) kill them. Then I would try to dispose of the body or make it look like self defence, whatever.

Isn't there some obscure law whereby if someone injures themself on your property, they can sue you for damages? Much the same reasoning behind needing "Beware of the dog" signs...

Bit difficult to sue you for damages if, as Damini suggested, you merely go to the kitchen for popcorn and soda, find a comfortable chair and enjoy the show.

the case of donahue and stephenson gave rise to the precedent of "owing a duty of care to your neighbour". I believe this definition includes people breaking into your home and hurting themselves on your property

the pain of being hung from your groin on razor sharp glass, i cant make a describable comment on how much pain he would have been in, but the twats a burgler i say let the git die imo, no law against letting someone die of their own stupidity :)

I'd have pulled him down off the glass right sharpish in order to put him in a stable side position Milud. I had no idea at the time that his scrotum was impaled on a 15" spike of broken glass and that by my action he is now effictively neutered. I was only trying to help, and it seemed that he was just slightly caught at the trowsers.

I think that you will find that if he broke the window then it is his issue, however if the window was already broken then the pensioner could be charged. The report does not make it clear which was the case - although it was prolly the former.
