I dont think we really are - people still starve. We did well against disease with the rise of antibiotics but we are now starting to lose that battle as everything becomes resistant. Old age - we are living longer in the UK but we also spend a lot longer unable to care for ourselves at the end - I also see the growth flattening out pretty soon.

I guess Gaffer has a point.. Running a Industrial country would've seemed impossible... I mean, a minority working in factories, and a majority farming, then moving to a majority in factories and a minority farming, seems ludicrous(sp?-cbatocheckm8), but I guess technology advances meant that this was possible, and I'm sure there will be ways around this.. multi-floor farming?
