[OT] Opinions on Star Wars: Episode II?

Might be a bit too early for most but I saw it on wednesday at 22:02 in GMT time, (00:02 here in Finland).
It was great, I would say much better than Episode I... it clears up many things aswell.
I would like just basic opinions here, no spoilers since most have not seen it I would expect... one thing I must is that Yoda is my new favorite jedi, gotta love lightsaber duels *whistles*
Oh yeah and this can also be seen from trailers/posters... Samuel L. Jacksons lightsabre is a cool color, hehe. Windu was his name?

I'll take your word that it's good; i'm seeing it on sunday hopefully. It couldn't really be WORSE than episode I, since the only good things in episode I were the saber fights.
Hopefully the closer the films get to the original Episode IV, the better they'll fit with the Star Wars 'universe'....

Seen it twice today, just to make sure.

Even saw Phantom Menace twice on release, so I could be absolutely positive it was the worst SW film ever.


Ep2 should have been called "Yoda kicks arse", or "Return of the Mojo", because Lucas has hit form again. Albeit not a completely triumphant return, as the film has some serious problems (more later), but when taking the whole film into consideration I'm happy to say that the film is indeed a return to the Star Wars that we know and love.

The sly humour, the intrigue, the danger, the huge battles, the classic saber fights: they're all here, and here in abundance. The memory of the nightmarish vision that was Phantom Menace has thankfully all been but extinguished from my mind.

Good points:

ILMs work on the creatures, and general landscapes etc - Coruscant is breathtaking, although it is heavily influenced by Luc Bessons New York from The 5th Element, even to such a degree that one sequence looks as if it could easily have fit into the other film.

Ewan McGregor - The star of the show, this is definitely his film. In Phantom Menace he was stuck with largely a bit part, playing lap dog to Liam Neesons Qui-Gonn Jin. Here he has much greater freedom to express himself, as he's in the thick of all the action, gets all the best lines, and really seems to be enjoying himself this time around, and rightly so.

The Yoda/Dooku Fight sequence - I'll not spoil it for those of you yet to see the film, but the little green man kicks some arse, and shows why he's the Jedi Council leader he is.

The Fetts - Timeura Morrison does a great job as Boba's daddy, and Jango goes toe-to-toe with Obi Wan in a great fight sequence on Kamino. Little Boba is good, far better than "little Annie" in TPM. Not given much to do unfortunately, but his malicious glee in the Fett/Kenobi chase sequence is entertaining to watch.

Natalie Portman - Does a better job here than in TPM, as like McGregor she is given a wider pallette to work with this time round. Looks great in that White elastic number too - dig those nipples

John Williams - His music reflects the on screen action as well as ever, however his score does have a tendencey to flare too strongly when it should in all honesty be slightly more subtle.

R2 & 3PO - Together again and bickering just like old times


Bad points:

Hadyn Christiansen - The guy plainly just cannot act. Yeah he looks cute etc, but he just doesn't have any charisma. He doesn't seem to be able to emote at all, other than pulling a brooding face, and doesn't seem to be able to "inhabit" the character he's meant to be portraying. He seems fairly disconnected from events going on around him and within him, to such a degree that he seems as though he'd deliver the same lines regardless of what his peers were doing and renders the character into nothing but a vehicle for his script lines. His acting when he finally finds, then loses his mother is atrocious, sub-drama class stuff. George - give this guy intensive acting lessons before principal shooting starts next year on Episode 3 - otherwise he'll render the saga's greatest villain into nothing more than a spoilt brat on steroids.

The love plot - Seemed very stilted and badly conceived. Awkward and badly thought out would be being kind. Doesn't seem to flow naturally. Partly this may be attributable to Christiansen's lack of acting ability, but it's likely not all his fault.

Overall though the film was great, despite it's faults. It ranks higher for me than either TPM (obviously, piercing my scrotum with a rusty red hot poker would rank higher for me than TPM) or RotJ, and sits just about equal with A New Hope, yet fails to overcome the daddeh: Empire.

Maybe Ep 3...

I watched it today and loved every minute of it.

After growing up watching Star Wars repeatedly I was soooo dissapointed at the first film TPM. Anyone who wont watch the second film due to a bad impression of the first should reconsider. In TPM it was very difficult to relate to the characters as the star was an 8 yr old kid and one of the co stars was an annoying alien (jar jar binks).

Attack of the clones is pitched at a higher age group (they already got the kids interested in the first one) and thus you can get into it more.

Favourite part has to be the vengeance killing of ALL the sand people. Its one of those parts that makes you want to go do it yourself.

<gets out kitchen roll holder and makes funny noises>

In my oppinion this second movie brought star was back out of the pit of commercialisation it had sunk into.

Fan or not - everyone should watch it

just saw it last night, besides the grappy seats at the local theatre, it was good. kepts my intrest throughout the movie.

Favourite line: "i swear you'll be the death of me..."

Saberfights in total lacked something... all jedi's seem to bee just swinging bit there-abouts lazy... not the intense 'fighting-feelin' we did get on the ep1. well, not counting the fett-kenobi and the yoda fights

Take a good look at the Dooku's sabre handle, looks kewl

Yes.... this really does get us back into a Star Wars feel. I was actually very suprised that Ep2 would be any good. I am really expecting Ep3 to be the bomb

Good points:

I think they have created enough cool things already, what else are they going to make a large city look like after various types before

Yes, we needed a new "main role jedi" and Gregor does it quite well. I just found it very strange to see Obi-Wan acting almost exactly like Qui-Gonn in Ep1

NOW THIS was absolutely excellent and almost this alone make you want to go see it again (along with Padmes white outfit). Many in the theater began laughing due to Yoda's arrival but then... kind of shut-up

I think our little Boba was not very good. His talking was fine but his laughs/grunts/snickers were just like ripped out of some children's program.... they were quite bad and I didn't like seeing them.

Natalie Portman - Does a better job here than in TPM, as like McGregor she is given a wider pallette to work with this time round. Looks great in that White elastic number too - dig those nipples

Yes she did a quite good job on the acting this time round. Daaaaaaaaaaaammmmmmmmmmmnnnnnnn I loved that tight and white outfit that totally revealed her nipples, haha! Everyone I knew that saw the movie noticed it, the guys that is
I'd say she was much hotter in this movie which is a plus Nothing like a torn piece of clothing aswell.

Best joke of the day "This is such a drag." Ahahahahahah.... so dumb yet funny. People who saw it know the part.

This guy is actually on a TV series on a channel in Finland. Some extremely crappy american TV series, but he is a bit younger there it would seem. Anyway.... I agree that on some parts he was not a very good actor at all, although I guess when he slaughters those sand men he has a slight bit of skill in acting. Doesn't matter really, just let us see more of Padme

You know when their shadows are cast on a wall.... why couldn't Anakin's shadow be the shape of Darth Vader, would've been a very good addition

Aye, lots better than that crappy TPM. And the swordfights lovely! And I agree on that "you'll be the death of me" or what ever to be the funniest line by far

Some claim that Yoda's authority took a nosedive from the 4, 5 and 6 when he engaged Matrix-mode and I admit, it's not the Yoda we're used to, but a) it makes sense, he IS the master jedi and b) it's Lucas' film, saga, what-not. He has the ultimate right to make it into what ever his vision is. And how on earth could Yoda teach Luke with the workings of the sabre unless he was that good with it himself..

Got to love that elvis-type "here, swordy!" he does when he pulls the sabre out

The love scene was horrible (they always are, but that one was too cruel), yet I guess it had to be the mandatory evil. We'll prolly see li'l Luke and Leia in Ep3, so they couldn't leave it out. I know if we didn't, it'd break the continuance <spelling>...

And as for the Anakin-feller what-his-name-was. Worst acting I've seen in ages. Bud Spencer would've fit the role better, ffs. That greasy teen-idol was totally out of place with the same monotoneous <spelling> voice pounding every inch of The Biggest Bad Guy in Movie History -authority to dust. Hope that's the last we'll see of him..

In the scale of 4-10, I'd give an 8+. Still a bit too glittering and shiny, but had loads more of the good stuff than TPM.

I agree that Lucas has a right to portray his own personal vision... AND don't forget that Yoda truly IS the Master Jedi. Funny how I always thought when watching episode 4/5/6 that it would be awesome to see Yoda fight, this movie fulfilled that dream, by far
Yeah that "here swordy" was great... that "ninja-stance" he did was also excellent and Yoda looked quite pissed off and it was a nice addition how Yoda (I think) said you have a lot to learn my old padawan or something in that general direction.
Anakin's actor was quite bad yes... so was Boba's actor (those comment or noises he made after his dad did something were idiotic), but I must say Padme is suuuupppppeeeeeeerrrrb especially when her nipples show in one scene
