OT:Max CPU speed outta an LX mobo

Topic says it all really, i have an Intel 440 LX mobo and put a 400MHz chip into it, however it will only run at 333 from bios and i use SoftFSB to get it to run at 366, but if i put it anyhigher and try to run any application, i get errors and the puter sometimes hangs, the chip aint hot (its meant to run at 400MHz) any ideas much appreciated

You're lucky the thing will even boot. P2's with the Descheutes core are made to run on 100MHz FSB. An LX board isn't capable of this. Scrap the board and get a cheap BX board. You'll be much happier in the end.

I also have an Intel 440LX board, my celeron 300a runs at 360Mhz but no more, my FSB is set to 80Mhz, so my PCI bus is 40Mhz and my AGP bus is reported as 160Mhz! tho I don't think this is the actual speed as my system is very stable.

360Mhz is the most you can get out of this board AFAIK.

LX chipsets were designed in the 233mhz era and generally were advertised as running at a max of 300mhz - i remember my celeron 300a would work in one, but i needed a bx board to get it working at the 450 i use it at.

Get a new motherboard, a bx board wont cost more than £30/40.

Thankyahs, think ill go buy one this weekend. Any ideas on boards that have lotsa tweakable things and are fairly stable ?

I had a qdiLX mobo that would only run p2 350..... after flashing bios it ran celry 500..may be worth checking out mobo web site m8

My Abit BE6 is very nice, soft menu, supports PIII, 133MHz bus etc. There may be some better boards out since but that is certainly a very nice board.

I got a phoenix bios chipset or what not, cant find bios updates anywhere
