The origin of my screenie is an ancient greek name, featured in many myths and legends but was also once a town.

However, the origin of my real name, Lara is a little more interesting.

It had denominations from the latin, greek, russian and icelandic. There is a language called Lara spoken in Indonesia by approximately 12,000 people. In Latin, it originates from the roman household gods called the 'Lares.' These were thought to protect each individual household and were different for each family. The original 'Lares' was the child of the daughter of the river god Alman...funnily enough called Lara. Lares was the product Lara's union with Jupiter. In the Latin language, lara can be translated as laurel (from which victor's wreathes were made from), cheerful, famous or loquacious (meaning unable to keep your mouth shut!)
In Greek, the name denomiates from Larissa or Larisa, again meaning Laurel, but also sometimes translated as 'citadel.'
In Icelandic, denominates from Laura, again meaning laurel.
In Russian, denominates from larisa, meaning fortified town.

Other well known Lara's include Lara Antipova from Dr Zchivago (and a song called Lara's Theme!)
Superman's mother was called Lara (wife of Jor'el)
Lara Croft (i wish i had some resemblance to her!)
Brian Lara (famous cricketer)

How about you?

Duncan is a Scottish name meaning dark, or brown, warrior, the equivalent in Gaelic being Donnchadh.

My name is short for TremorChrist, which is a Pearl Jam song.

My real name is John and its a name used for a toilet sometimes.

Obviously statements like this require a posted pic for us to verify.

Babs is because of my enormous full breasts.

OR it could be because my old moniker was xbaboon (long story) and no fecker could be bothered to type it.

Adam is apparently the Hebrew word for 'man' - how apt, as I am all that is man.

....and a bit of the other.

screenie comes from daoc char. (please dont hit me.)

my real name, Nicholas, is derived from Greek "Nikolaos" nike (victory) and loas (people). there are lots of variations in many languages but they all look like 'nikolas' so i'm not going to list them.

famous 'nicks' include santa, the devil and a russian that converted japanese folks to christianity in the 1800s.

I'm incredibly shit with thinking up cool nicknames....

this one kinda stuck when I used to play a chap called UDFC Rattlesnake alot - he'd generally kill me so one day as a joke I changed nick to mongoose and miraculously I killed him a couple of times so the name stuck

Recently I've gone by such names as FieNd (from the coal chamber song - Fiend) and Dupa (polish slang for arse) which is very appropriate I feel.

Real name Simon

The boy's name Simon \s(i)-mon\ is pronounced SYE-mun. It is of Hebrew origin, and its meaning is "to hear, to be heard; reputation".

taken from http://www.thinkbabynames.com/meaning/1/Simon

Throdgrain is possibly the smallest character in the book I expect no one here has ever read called Gormanghast by Mervyn Peake. I dont think he even says anything, hes that small a character. If anyone has read it, he works as a teacher at Titus's school.

The reason I chose that name is becuase I was confident no one else would have it,. after originally using a ordinary name for Quake2.

Google throdgrain, everything there is me.

trishyphen doesnt roll off the tongue badly. it sounds like it could be a name: trish-iffen. trishiffen. trishyphen.
edit: ofc trish is a ladies name and i'm not accusing tris of being trish.

Bodhi is from Point Break natch. My real name is John, which as Trem says is another word for toilet. This is why it's pronounced "Celtic Love God".
