i hope i don't get a slap on the wrist for asking such an absurd question here, orcs call humans and dwarfs / ummies and stunties ... what do they call elves?

the only reason i ask is that its for some information for my up and coming guild website (the guild i want to make that has no members *crys*).

i guess i could link my site here also Da Meanest an' Greenest Home - GuildPortal Guild Hosting it would be nice to get some feedback on the design if possible, i know the website is empty so please don't criticise that ... i want to finish the artwork and then fill it with info :)

In my old Orc's and goblins armybook elves are refered to as 'Pointy ears'. Good luck with your guild!

Thanks again for the help, i would like to ask for further assistance if possible ... i have gone completly mind blank and cannot think what to fill my guild website with, also how will i be able to recuit people before the beta starts? (are there any websites especially for this?) I have ran succesful guilds in the past (but we are talking a year+ ago) and i really can't think of what i can do before the beta starts or even the main launch that will help my guild be successful (i have a 50 man vent + website and thats as far as my brain is taking me).

Sorry if i sound like a babbling fool, but help would be much appriciated.

*SITE UPDATED* new graphics (looking alot more flush) http://www.guildportal.com/Guild.aspx?GuildID=276735&TabID=2322595 whatcha think?

Try some of these web kits to help your website to make it more official looking.

Warhammer Online : Age of Reckoning

Will be difficult starting a brand new guild without any "brand" GM or guildies, there will be a huge influx like wow with new guilds that noobs will join and then leave within 2 weeks, then the vast majority of these guilds will fold. But good luck all the same.

Edit because I've stopped being a muppet:

The "Fantasy" font for default text is probably quite good if you have that font - but most visitors won't. On my machine it defaults to the font I've installed for the HG website headers (they're made as images though) - and it's almost unreadable at that point size.

I'd stick to Arial for your main text... and possibly use some technology like sIFR if you want the really nice fonts.

The site looks good. Having a decent (most important is reliable) website and vent server is a very useful start for a guild. You don't need to fill your website with information yet, just make sure it has links to all the useful resources and paste some relevant news bits.

Members of a successful guild will share a common interest. You must decide what the general aim of your guild is. You only need a few members initially and if you stay active and are a nice guy your guild will grow. Recruiting new people you haven't met in game is generally a bad thing because its hard to judge if they will have similar play styles.

Don't aim to have a 100 man guild ready for the head start. The guilds that will have that sorted will having been planning it for years (literally) already.

ok that was some good advice + the text = a bad idea goblin? and iv'e never used sIFR before is it complicated and if i set it up will everyone be able to see the text i use?

o and btw mass i looked at the webkits you get from the official site and they are literally stuffed with dwarf art / banners / borders / background etc ... then they have one or two pieces based around orcs. Finding good renders or art for making an orc based site is very hard iv'e found :(

sIFR can be quite tricky to set up unless you already know html/css - you also need to have adobe flash to generate the .swf file thinking about it so maybe not an option.

I'd recommend you make images using your font for headers on the page but keep the main blocks of body text in something like Arial or Times - unless you use flash it's really hard to get anything other than a "bog standard" font showing for everyone.

You could offer a link to the font you've used though I'm not sure why my PC is defaulting to a different font - might be you need to specify it in the CSS a bit more specifically, not really used non-standard fonts much in the past - google? :) it means your regular visitors would be able to see it in its full glory but downloading and installing a font isn't something most people would do for a website.

On the greenskin thing: I've (shamelessly? :)) chopped all my assets out of screenshots - might be the way to go (though I dunno how grey an area that is - as long as you're not using it to make an "EA sucks" orc-pron website I'm sure they're fine with it though)

There are only websites like this. Put your guild website in your signature with a note to say you are recruiting. There will be recruitment threads starting as soon as a server list has been brought up. There is a list of un-official forums on the GOA website, make sure you are signed up for all of them and post a recruitment message in the appropriate place.

Recruit people who you see in game and go for quality (ie people you like and get along with) over quantity. (FREE GOLD IF YOU JOIN MY GUILD!!!!!11111)

Umpf, i won't bump into filthy greenskins. No I'd rather put bullets in ya so i can sip beer with my other hand.

Best source for background is the army book and maybe some novels (Gotrek&Felix,...)
