I'm prolly the last person to give out tech advice, but this worked for me: settings >> control panel >> system >> advanced >> performance options >> then set performance optimised for background services.

Never had any probs with random duel-log lds or losing stick after that, shame it took about 2yrs b4 someone told me about it.

Apart what Mael said (and it works) u can alter the priority of the 2 dlls under task manager to alleviate load on cpu.

1. do what mael said,
2. set windows to use a fixed swap of around 2 GB
3. make sure you have enough ram (1 GB ram as minimum, >1.5GB recomended)

Swap file, as a rule of thumb, should be 2x the amount of ram btw.

that rule is kinda obsolete and it comes from the times when computers had tiny amounts of ram.
for ex. i have 2gb ram and i use a fixed swap of 2gb size.

Doesn't change a single bit be it that u got 256 mb or 4 GB, take a quick look at Microsoft hints to optimize performances.

nah.

it really depends of the programs you use and how much ram you could afford in that computer.

lets note totalram as being the sum of physical ram and page file size.
if you run 2 instances of daoc of about 600MB each and your system use another 200-300MB ram you need atleast 1.5GB totalram - let's say 2GB to stay safe. that means you can do it decent with 1gb ram and 1gb page file. rest is waste of disk space and a burden for the system.

but the need for paging file is rather easy to determine:
1. press start --> run, in the run line type perfmon, press enter.
2. right click the part of the window with the vertical red bar moving and select properties. on the general tab select view --> report and press ok.
3. right click again in the 'report' part of the window and "add counters..."
4. from the drop down "performance object" select paging file with the options %usage (in the left side) and _Total (in the right side)

start using your computer -- 2x daoc and the rest of the craps one may use when playing daoc -- and note the % of page file usage, which btw should not exceed 75-80%.

increase or decrease the size of the pagefile as needed.
