Optimal path for SC

I saw on the site here recommendations for leather crafting in sense what to craft in what order. Does it make any difference how you SC-craft (e.g. most in yellow or even blue, not in orange) or in order of gems? Are there any tips for how to optimally go about learning the art of SC?

I usually make series of 10 gems at a skill of about 2-3 higher than my current one. Those 10 gems will usually (not always) bring me those 2-3 points, and then i will start on the next gem, another 2-3 points up, etc etc.

In other words, i go for lowest possible orange con gems. Seems to work decently... at 890 skill now.. almost there... almost there!!!

Levins suggestion works fine, or use a bit of time and do the crafters quests, then do the last quest(800) 10 times(takes about 10 mins to do) and craft away that is the best(imo) way to get skills fast and cheapest.
