all worth it.

Blade and Blade 2 are well worth it, as is enemy at the gates.
I thought the truman show was a bit weak, but for a tenner itrs worth it.

The Others, Blade and Blade II aren't my sort of film, but Enemy at the Gates and The Truman Show rock hard. :)

Blade 2 and The Others (provided they are the R1 or R2 Special Editions) are worth a tenner each.

The other 3 can be picked up cheaper than a tenner anyway.

Blade 2 is collectors, the others is special edition, never bother buying films that arnt special or collectable. they are only 2 quid more expensive than a normal version only you get 2 DVDs one full of special stuff. Monsters Inc. is the best one yet, got looooaads of stuff on disk 2.

I liked The Others. I found the Truman Show distinctly mediocre.

The Others is like The Sixth Sense. Only not shit.

Going out on a limb here, I preferred Blade 2 to Blade. Having said that, I saw Blade 2 in Odeon Leicester Square, whereas I saw Blade monged out of my head round a mate's house, so that could have something to do with it.

Enemy at the Gates is total crap.

The Truman Show is ok, not amazing.

Spend your £50 on QUALITY films instead

cba to comment on the others but...

Blade 2 - only 1 word I can use to describe that film: revolting. I usually like gore in films but that one made my hair stand on end. Definately worth the money if you like that sorta thing.

Apocalypse Now Redux
The Godfather
Scarface
Carlito's Way
Grosse Point Blank
Pulp Fiction
Three Kings
Predator
Fight Club
The Thing
The Usual Suspects
Withnail and I

Might not be on offer, but 3 quid extra for a good film is better than a film you'll never watch more than once.

edit: can someone explain to me what was so good about Enemy at the Gates? Jude Law was about as emotive as his metaphorical stone, Rachel Weisz was nothing more than eye candy, the entire premise was utterly ridiculous, and there's nothing more boring than watching 2 guys with rifles sit and wait for each other for 2 hours.

I thought EATG was quite good actually. Still, I was "monged out of my head" at the time of viewing

  • The Others - Never seen it, so therefore cannot comment
  • Blade - Good film, couple of good bits in it
  • Blade II - Never seen, but acquiring (;)) it right at this moment
  • Enemy At The Gates - Excellent film, some class moments in it (Koulikov getting shot in the head jumping across the gap, Danilov sacrificing himself, and the Major taking his death like a man)
  • Truman Show - Jim Carrey, therefore not high on my favourites list

My Recommendations

Pulp Fiction
Reservoir Dogs
Jackie Brown
From Dusk Till Dawn
Wild Things
Face Off
Fight Club
Snatch
Trainspotting

The Others - Decent film, but you can, as with 6th sense, spot the twist a mile away
Blade - Kick arse film.
Blade II - Ditto that. Made even more watchable by the surprisingly great performance by Matt "When will I, will I be famous?" "Fucking" Goss!
Enemy at the Gates - Decent film, plenty of tension and some nice storytelling.
Truman Show - Not bad, watch it once, be impressed by Jimbo's restraint in not pulling a stupid face for 2 hours then forget about it.

I got the following the other week for £50 the lot:

Bridget Jones's Diary
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Crazy Beautiful*
Metropolis - The 2001 animé, not the Fritz Lang film.
Ghost in the Shell
Nutty Professor 2

I was quite happy with that wee lot.

Also got this lot for £40 the week before:

Dr Strangelove*
13th Floor*
High Fidelity
Grosse Pointe Blank

*Yet to watch

Probably because apart from the love story the whole thing pretty much did happen, vassili Zaitsev was a well known Russian sniper they used for a moral boost and the Nazis sent they're best sniper to take him out, although he was never identified. It was also probably the first turning point in the war, had the Russians been beaten at Stalingrad we'd probably be all speaking German right now, and so its nice to see an account of what they went through.

I see from you're list you like American only war films and that crappy gangster crap that you lot bang on about (I fell asleep during the godfather it bored me so much) so you wouldn't be able to understand a film about their worst enemies.

Others I thought was hugely OVER-rated.
Blade is fun.
Blade is even more fun.
Enemy at the gates was great for first half. Shit in the middle and ending in my mind was complete tosh.
Truman show - okay, nothing special.

Pulp fiction is fucking class. Deffinatly get it, the sepcial edition has interviews with the cast and deleted scenes (i think) well worth the money!

Pulp Fiction (IMHO) is one of the most overrated films ever.

Yep its quite good, but not one of the greatest flicks ever made.

Why don't you get Man Bites Dog, make sure your parents watch it with you first though ;)

My opinions:

Pulp Fiction is a classic and worth every penny for the Special Edition.

You should also consider the other Tarantino films (all out on 2 disc DVDs now):

True Romance - my fave

Jackie Brown

Reservoir Dogs (I got the Mr White version).

I won all four and would gladly take them with me to my desert island.
