Hmmm

I'm with summo on this one, opening links in new windows from the forums is immensely helpful - but. and it's a little but....

i always assume that whatever link i click on is gonna try and take over my present window... hence i always right click on a link and select open new window... i just know that i don't have to do this automatically in the forums. NICE.

2nd point -

mozilla / IE6 - i use both extensively - have done since i started the multimedia module of my HND and was absolutely HORRIFIED to see what happened to my fucking stylesheets in browsers other than IE.... but anyway we are getting off point here - they are both EXACTLY THE FUCKING SAME in how they handle links.... the difference is, as whasshisname says in mozilla you can easily disable links opening in new windows.... and. and this is the killer for me, the entire reason why i use it all the time now - it has an option to DISABLE UNSOLICITED WINDOW OPENING - i.e. POPUPS!!! KILL TEH ADVERT SPAM!!

any idiot boring enough to want to argue this further anyway, go fuck off and read Jakob Nielson's Designing for Web Usability book. £25.... it's pretty.

I've tried that. I can't tell the difference between unsolicited pop-up windows and ones you actually click to open. It's a good idea, poorly implemented.

Doesn't work unfortunately :(

First page with popups I tried it on it locked IE completely, processor stuck at 100%, forced reboot :(

Shame.

Some intresting studies undertaken:

100% of people are allergic to life
100% of people become death after sitting in the engine of a plane taking off

etc.

bollocks in my opinions to those studies. their all conducted with americans who have the attention span of goldfish and mereley take part in the studies because it offers them money

No, because the people intelligent enough to understand what makes good web-design are also intelligent enough to learn how to fucking spell...

Fs! One bloody word!

Onething that would proberbly suit everyone best, would be to give people true options:
Either in the membership area, or a special site preferances area, give people the option of choosing between new window for links, or same window. Set a cookie that states their preferance, and render the news html according to what they've set. Even if BW use a completely stupid news system, it wouldn't be too much effort for someone to add this feature...

Yer and another site that is a low graphics site. And another one for people who don't like green, and one for the people who come here who only like DAoC.

Your 'problem' with opening of new windows is so small it barely exists. Put up with it
