open the god thread

First civilised thread about God and stuff in ages shame to close it down esp after i just read through about 250 odd posts only to discover it had been closed

is usually a key indication that its locked before you even read it

I'm with the majority here.. the thread was a bit repetitive in places but that's no reason to close it and other than that it was one of the more interesting I've seen here recently. The way it was closed wasn't too hot either.

The thread was one post away from someone throwing an insult, it was like it was on verrrrrrrry shakey ground and I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did. It appeared to be going in circles too, focussing on the minutiae of people's words and context to try to prove one another wrong (which then ended up in someone focussing on the minutiae of someone else's minutiae).

Example:

"I believe in god"

"ahh you said god, which is not God. God in the eyes of God is God and not god. God with an uppser case 'G' is the proper God."

"yes but my BELIEF is in god, not God, and since god is in my head, then that god could be construed as God."

etc.

Yes, but why is that a reason to close the thread? What rule did it break? We agree to abide by the rules of the forum or get banned. The mods are there to make sure people stick to the rules. They are not there to be thought police. "Oh no this COULD end badly, lets not give it a chance to".

Sorry G, but that "minutae" had a point, and it was actually going somewhere (at least it was for the people actaully having the discussion). And as has been said, it wasn't breaking any rules, and what really pisses me off is Meg's "I don't have to answer to you lot" attitude.

I also find it a bit hypocritical when there's that ridiculous "my electronic cock is bigger than yours" thread in the console forum that's nothing but flames and insults and has gone on for 477 posts!

You gotta admit though, forum threads are like relationships: the only exciting ones are bad ones; and that console flame war thread was a beaut .

Let's be very clear - I totally understand why it was closed (yawningly awful IMHO) and I think some of you are being a bit harsh on Septic Peg - but it doesn't break the rules...... yet.
