So? It was a good read in parts, and despite the same things being discussed again and again, new discussions were popping up.

I see no reason why it should be closed. It does not break the coc, there was no abuse.

fwiw, I did not feel the thread was going anywhere any more, and the discussing had turned into arguing which was more targeted at a person than the discussion (erk late night thought can you tell?). anyway Meg should answer imo.

To start, I really don't see how you are owed an explanation? But, for the record, I've given one privately to the person I consider deserved one. They asked and they got it.

Secondly let's be clear, I neither like nor dislike the content of that particular thread. I broke the downward spiral, that was my action, nothing more.

The more I think about it matey, I feel compelled to say that it seems to me that on any given occasion when I use the mod powers I hold here (which other than on spammers is actually not very often), you seem to hold a very strong negative view of my actions. Am I missing something perhaps?

You might well expect something but I can't say that you're owed something, so we disagree. Since we disagree and further since I honestly have no interest in going over and over this, I think that leaves you and/or whoever with fairly simple options to move forward with:

1. Bitch about me / my decision / my supposed point of view / etc.
2. Move on with your lives.
3. Seek a higher power. It is well known that Jup & Deebs sit above. You may not like my decision but if they countermand it, I will (as I always have) respect the chain that exists here.

You are right, I do not agree with your decision, it was hurting no one. When bollocks like the which console is better thread is allowed to carry on for so long, it really is a shame that a thread that was created to keep discussion in one place and was not hurting anyone was closed because of the decision of one mod with no discussion at all.

You may be able to do whatever you want as a mod, and not have to answer to us, but that does not make it right. And for what it is worth meg, yes, you are too heavy handed as a mod, that is my opinion. I really think General should only be modded by Will, Teedles and Yoni as the keep things going without ruining things.

edit:// Also, if the thread was in a downward spiral why not simply let it die out, only three people were really involved, and it may well have reached a natural death soon anyway. Worse thing that could have happened is someone having a hissy fit, but then the mods could do their jobs and mop up. Or we going down the road of preventative measures? That would really kill any thread not filled with caption competitions on these boards. Oh and toht and nath can continue their discussion in private, but then no one else can read it. Personally I feel that threads should ONLY be closed if they break the CoC (ouchies) or have clearly illegal content in them.

Other than that I thought we were all big boys and girls and were relatively capable of adult argument (argument used here in its proper sense, IE NOT a slanging match).

God knows (no pun) that I've seen similar threads on other forums devolve into personal attacks and outright childishness, but from what I could see none of the above apply to that thread.

When I've been mod in a forum on the likes of Wireplay (hell I was the WP Forums Community Liaison while the service was still massive) that's how I've always handled things, and it always seemed to stand me in good stead.

Have to say meg, I agree. It's just your personal view that made you close it. The others in that thread still had stuff they wanted to say, it was civil and most importantly it was going somewhere IMHO.
