This is my favorite part:
Microsoft said the exploit was "technically possible" but there was no need to worry.

The firm has pointed out that in order for the flaw to be exploited the speech recognition feature would need to be activated and configured and both microphone and speakers would have to be switched on.
Dont worry!

I hope this isnt reported on the news.... and people with TV tuners pick it up... with a microphone enabled.... and configured with no feedback..... and their voice activation software enabled...

I think if you are stupid enough to set your machine up without a keyword to let it know your talking to it you deserve to lose your machine

unless u had the microphone plastered directly on the speaker and cranked the volume up really loud, i probably wouldent worry to much.

still intrested in atleast trying vista tho. just to see what its like if nothing else...

I have notihing agaist people using the technology sorry if it sounded out of order. But instad of saying "computer" so it knows your talking to it change it so you say "porn holder" or something that way only your voice works and its not standard.

Not really, no one will bother to work on a practical exploit that will impact hardly anyone at all. If you were a money grabbing haxor would you bother to waste your time on this?

Ahh the joys of voice recognition! We have a VR system at work, I am lucky enough to have programmed in a lot of the dept names, and their alternatives.

"Clap clinic" = Gynological dept (gets a lot of hits)
"Baby place" = Maternity (we put this in for chavs, and yes they do use that term)

Theres more but you get the drift, then we got carried away with it a little:

"Kabab / Pizza" - autodialer with the local delivery places on.
"Shortarse" = my team m8
"Guvna" = me
"Wanker" = head of IT (he hasnt noticed this yet, you can tell by my current employment status!)

Wonder what happens if you shout "IM REPLACING YOU WITH LINUX!"...

Apparantly they have found a security flaw in linux and osx. If you run a script which deletes all your files then it's possible all your files dissapear.

Apparantly linux weenies are denying this is a problem.......

lol :p

+ in all seriousness what the article seems to fail to mention is that vista has a volume shadow copy turned on by default so it's not a disaster if things happened to get deleted anyway......
