So if someone is locked up for nothing, they should be given a warm handshake and a nice apology?

If i was locked up like that, i'd be going for a major cashcheck instead of peanuts.

err tohto... I was saying the fact that charging people, who have been found innocent, for rent for the time they were locked up is mental. Asking for money back isn't bad per se(cba to do the accent).

Yeah, i know. My wording wasn't the best possible there...

What i meant to say in simple terms is:

Should be the other way around and bigtime. ;)

ahh

I get yah!

IMHO, people should be less inclined to 'screw X for all it's worth' when an accident happens. The whole of an accident is that it's unfortunate but no-ones fault. Then again, as said on the article, the hardship suffered by his wife and children did need to be addressed. Added to the fact that, again as the article said, he got no help to integrate him into society which he would have got if he was guilty. Its funny that might have been in a better situation if he pretended he was guilty!

You've got it partially the wrong way round. I think this has always been charged, deducted from the compensation. However, some people are fighting against it in court, and the esteemed Mr Blunkett is fighting against that.

Not that I think he should be fighting it, obviously. I'm the hippy here

Surely this cannot be serious! Suspect it most definitely is, but refuse to believe our country could be any more stupid.

Then again....

I don't agree with the way the information is presented in that article to be honest. While charging people in that way is out of order, the situation isn't quite as bad as that article makes out. Deductions for saved living expenses from compensation has been common law, and this happened before labour came to power.

I'd hate to see his Room Bill, with all that "Room Service" he was getting over the years. What's the going rate for a 5-man-beasting these days? Plunkets probably got a sliding-scale for that one.

:eek6:
