The day after boxing day this year (not the most auspicious date for me, it has to be said) I recieved a letter forwarded to me from the Dept Of Work and Pensions. It was addressed to a place I lived almost exactly 20 years ago, and had taken 3 months to reach me.

It said I had a pension with a pension company, or some such thing. I nearly chucked it away to be honest, but I hadnt seen that address in so long I thought Id ring them and find out what it was about. It took three phone calls, but eventually it transpired that I had shares in this pension company, which had been bought for me by a company I worked for 20 years ago. They checked my national insurance number and everything, and it was definately me. How odd thinks me, still not really taking anything in, except the fact that I might have a pension of some tiny amount in 30 years time.

No, the bloke on the phone explained, the company has now gone non-mutual, meaning it had been sold on the stock market, and I could sell my shares.

Now Im getting interested! How many shares do I have? 644 10p shares , he says. Oh thats not much is it? No he says, they are currently at £2.95 each, making a payment the best part of two grand.

I put the phone down, still not believing it, as I have no recollection of any pension or anything.

Anyway, today I recieved the certificate, and sold some of the shares online. Its free money day! :D

Ive had a bad year in 2006 , maybe this is the start of a better 2007. No-one, NO-ONE, has ever given me anything for free before, I could certainly get used to it :D

Bloody typical of the DWP to have an address that's 20 years old on file though as your primary address :p

Good for you Throddy, especially after last year.

Perhaps we can find time for that game of CoH this week then?

This proves that Throddy isn't a dole queen after all, since they didn't know his current address :D

Well done mate, if it were me I'd sling it straight into my mortgage but you're an old duffer so you've probably paid it off. I suspect you'll be buying a new Power Ranger suit?

Leggy more than welcome(bring sis and bird).

Mank likewise but only if wearing a Stoke strip.

I am also hoping Babs will make it, although I haven't actually mentioned it to him yet.

Oh yeah it will kind of be in a hotel with a bar, I think the rooms are £60 a night and its pretty swanky for us tramps. I only live about 40 minutes away from Manchester but I will be staying the night I reckon.

More details to follow, may even make a new thread about it when we know more.

All of this is assuming I don't get banned from driving before then :(
