OMG 300 was awesome

my bf is very anal about stuff not being historically correct and tbh eh was dreading seeing this film but he really enjoyed it, yeah so they changed some stuff but they didnt totally butcher it and make it in to a pile of dog crap *alexander anyone?*

i still think its one of the most enjoyable films ive ever seen i bloody loved it.

There were a couple of things i didnt like about the movie which i think ruined it a bit:

Every sound effect in the film was quite overdone...
They used WAY too much slowmotion...
A bit too american with the WE FIGHT FOR FREEDOM bullshit :>

but if im not mistaken historically they were fighting for freedom, its america copying them...its a conspiracy!

Well its from two different view points, you see the Americans themselves invented there own clause of 'we fight for freedom' which is mainly shown through out the American revolution where they are fightings for freedom from our British empire the quote of 'we fight for freedom' comes mainly from when the British invaded the south of America when they took 'Savannah' and 'Charleston'.
Also the American idea of 'we fight for freedom' comes from the American Civil War were the Northern army were fighting to free black saves from the south.
Americas idea of 'We fight for freedom' used to be true and well quoted when it came to them fighting; now since 'Vietnam' its just a bunch of bull crap. The American idea of 'We fight for freedom' is over and it ended in 1945.

You cannot really say the American's copied them thoe as they are both simular situations in different time periods.

PS. Hello Ezteq and yes 'Alexander' was extremely bad; prob the worst modern remake ever; shame they ruined the idea of 'Alexander' through that film; the guy truly was one of the greatest Military masterminds up there with Shaka Zulu and Napoleon

watched it earlier and i thought it was.. erm.. ok

no more, no less. watchable film but seriously overhyped really.. was a little disappointed if truth be known.

i think i prefer the original verison tbh.. all those extras give a better scope as to how mighty the persian army was.. CGI didnt really do it for me.

Howcome nobody has said the film is inaccurate in terms of xerxes?? As I doubt somehow that Xerxes was 7ft 10 with more piercings than you can shake a stick at, and a voice that sounds like a god

I thought 300 was a good film, it was so good I saw it twice, once at the imax and once at a regular screen, enjoyed it both times.

The imax screening was odd, the oracles nipples were a metre wide xD

You have missed the main point of the movie, it is a tale being told by the best story teller of the 300 hence him being sent to rally the councillors. So the whole movie is his view. We all know good story tellers make you believe the unbelievable.

As various others have said, its good for what it is - two hours of killing and all that. The idea that its told from the standpoint of what the legends say about what happened as opposed to what really happened is an interesting one, and makes the film what it is.

On the way out of watching it I was like "hmm... bit over the top tbh!" but looking back at it now I can see that its supposed to be over the top, and realising that I can say that I enjoyed the film (all apart from the unforgivable fact that the elephants where too big and too stupid).

I'm always a bit of a stick in the mud to over the top films, but I guess thats just me, like I said, good film for what it is

Ok with everyone going on about how the movie didnt stick to history i am totally going to defend it and say it stuck pretty damn close to the comi.... graphic novel, i mean omg the chars look identical!

and tbh xerses did actually give me a bit of the horn that whole, giant pierced lady boy thing really did it for me.

Ok so you dont like their choise of leading actor and his acting skills but how did they "bugger it up" as regards the historical events? My ancient history is by no means perfect, probably far from it, but i actually thought Alexander was pretty good as far as historical accuracy was concerned. i watched 300 a lot of times, enjoyed it mainly bcos it was a rox transfer of a comicbook .

xerxes was considered god on earth for his vast empire, reason that Leonidas makes him bleed in the last scene to prove that he is not

and the poster mentioning that the story is of spartan perceptive is right; the oddlooking "immortals", the humanlike beasts, the insanely huge elephants and rinos are all there bcos the whole story is a spartan telling, and not actual history. Still, the story that Frank Miller tells in his comic is not far from what Herodotus ,the famous greek historian, told in his own history books. If you are really into history you could look up the lines in the movie "300" into actual historical sayings from Herodotus' books, altho a bit harsly translated into english, but ofcourse the movie wouldnt be commercial if the Spartans talked greek ^^
