I am sick of people marking it down for not being historically correct, when by all accounts the moral of the story and that of what actually happened is that
"Few stood against many" by doing this they helped create an army to crush the Persians.
If anyone wants to go and find a descendant of someone that was at the battle to tell us who cleaved who and in what order fine otherwise stfu![]()
History is based on another persons stories which have usually been passed on before someone with a brain put it to parchment. It could be closer to the truth than you know because quite frankly Chinese whispers is shit!!
Going to say this once, and once only.
IT WAS A FUCKING MOVIE... Sheesh, what if people got all anal about... Independance day? ALIENS DID NOT TRY AND TAKE OVER EARTH! HISTORICALLY INCORRECT!
Sheesh -_-
If you don't know the film isn't historically correct, you need your head examined.
I know the film is based on the 'Graphic novel' which I thought was quiet entertaining; so you dont have to remind me that the film was not hugely based on historical fact but on the works of Frank Miller. I was mearly stating the fact that the film and indeed Frank Miller's novel itself left some vital peices of information about the battle out. The film itself is completely set out wrong in terms of how it tries to make out that the Spartans were the only ones doing anything at the battle, which they was not![]()
There was a small group of greeks fighting alongside the Spartans at the beginning of the film.
persion .
(Sorry for bad punctuation, is late and tired)
Your views are very silly tbh... by historical fact the persion army was no way near the scale its portrayed in the movie. The persion army was around the range of 60,000 to 300,000 a rather large range but no way near the amount that was shown in the movie (a million I believe?). Also the film lact the true fact that the Spartans did not fight alone till the end 2000 greek allies thought with the spartans till the end; with another 5000 being dismissed on the 3rd day by Leonidas. Also on the third and final day of the Battle the Spartans and the greek allies charged valiently at the persions before many archers started fireing. It is also a HISTORICAL FACT that Leonidas died very early on the 3rd day; he was hit by an arrow in which persions saw and finished him with deadly blows to the chest, which left the spartan army to fight leaderless (well except for the captain who's name I forget). The spartans and greek allies (mainly Helots and thespians) eventually died off while trying to defend Leonidas's body preventing the persions from taking it. All the spartans and thespians were finished off by volleys of arrows and Leonidas's head was choped off and placed on a stake.
And tbh another historical fact that not many of you will no about is that the Spartans were not really the true hero's of Thermopylae it was by matter of fact the Greek navy who by impossible odds prevented the Persion navy from landing behind the spartans and atacking there flank (ofcourse this happened anyway because of the secret path). The spartan navy hugely outnumbered prevented the Persion's from landing on all three days of the battle; showing that if the Spartan navy did not stop the persions, the spartans would have been dead from very early on; on the first day.
That is a small small small brief outview on the Historical mistakes in the movie... if you want me to go into huge detail about the battle then I will just for you.
IT IS NOT TRYING TO BE HISTORICAL, IT SAYS BASED ON THE GRAPHIC COMICS FROM FRANK MILLER.
Also everyone that fought in that battle was a true fucking hero, stop trying to put negative spin on it.
Also lol at your numbers on the persians, you come at me with so called historical facts then tell me the number of persians was from 60k to 300k thats alot of fucking grace if you ask me, next you will be telling me john the blacksmith actually made that special sword that cut the finger of Jim the fletcher. Stick your invented facts up your arse
You also missed out the part about a group of spartans/greeks invading the camp of the persians during the evening to try and kill the king.
tbh elkie you need to take a step back. your rambling about facts over fiction are annoying people and getting them worked up. its a movie, designed to get asses in the seats so they can make money. none really cares about the actual historical truth involved as none really knows who or what the spartans were or did. while you may have this knowledge, noone really wants the history lession
the irony is as the spartans slaughted the persians, the americans slaughter the iraqis in now iraq formally persia, except they yanks dont use shields, they use tanks, planes and daisycutters![]()
