I was actually meant to go and see this yesterday, was completely changed and ready to go. But nooo, one of the people who tried organising it couldn't make the viewing we wanted. So we decided to not go -_- So tempting to watch this online, but I won't! Am going to go and see this Monday or something :D

I think it was rubbish. A few more minutes on making the story being decent, and less time making the fighting scenes would hopefully help.

Also the fact that EVERY cool scene from the movie was shown in the trailer sucks.

Overhyped to the teeth.

I agree Zenith only with the scenes being in the trailer. But who cares man the movie was r0x

And I think you really have to be into that kind of stuff (Gladiatior/Troy) inorder to like the movie.

Regardless I defenatly think it's taking 13th warrior's position in the movie I watch before I got LARP :)

Tend to find it hard to keep into a film these days but i found it really engrossing. Very cinematic and moving. I really think its one of those films where you have to try and interpret it for yourself to some degree. Like someone said its being told from a 1st person standpoint and as such the unrealistic things in the movie are just down to perception.

Anyway i thought it was great :)

Best film I have seen in a long time, what did everyone else think? Xerxes made me laugh, he was like 50cent gone wrong with all the bling bling. The only bad point about the film was the last 2 minutes, typical crappy ending with some dodgy speech, leaving the ending open for a sequel, but that will be hard as in history they all get slaughtered.
Unless the next film will be about how they die horribly...

Az

Do you actually know anything about the faint bit of history? the Persians got owned in the final battle.

If you want a historically accurate and awesome retelling of the thermopylae battle then read Gates of Fire by (if i remember correct) Steven Pressfield.

Well im a history freak so I found the film a bit of a let down on the 'accuracy' of it but it was good not as good as the orginal thoe I must say... Graphics were very cool I for one am not huge on the use of major CGI but was impressed... but it was like watching 300 wrestlers v wimps :)

I give it a 9/10 for the battles ... 5/10 for story... 3/10 for accuracy

I dont get the whole accuracy arguement. The film doesn't try at all to be accurate, how can you rank it on that basis? :)

that book isnt historically accurate :p its loosley based on the events and gives a fairly good insight into spartan beliefs and way of life (ableit very romantasised)

i didn't say it was, i meant he got the author correct

spot on, they never claim it was historically accurate at all,
as i said near the start of this thread it was based on a book not history

i didn't say it was, i meant he got the author correct
hehe was being lazy with quoting :)

saying that 300 is historically inaccurate is like saying much of the action in sin city is unrealistic :)

I am sick of people marking it down for not being historically correct, when by all accounts the moral of the story and that of what actually happened is that
"Few stood against many" by doing this they helped create an army to crush the Persians.

If anyone wants to go and find a descendant of someone that was at the battle to tell us who cleaved who and in what order fine otherwise stfu :p

History is based on another persons stories which have usually been passed on before someone with a brain put it to parchment. It could be closer to the truth than you know because quite frankly Chinese whispers is shit!!

sorry but that is a silly argument,
history may well be kept by stories but i would much rather follow a scholar telling events than a poet (or muse) who over dramatises and romantasises them

The battle on the scale of things actually was very insignificant and all it did was give time for the greeks to evacuate rather than some great military victory, it didnt give some rallying call as portrayed in the film it was only made famous through stories (or the legend if you will) afterwards

Talk about a contradiction, how can creating time to let people get to safety and to fight further down the line be insignificant? The heroics of all of those that fought and died in that battle is what transformed the attitude of the Persians cannot be beaten into the attitude of they are only human and we will win. They created the initial splash the ripple effects of that splash allowed the Greeks to kick some arse.

hardly a contradiction, civilians in general dont fight wars unless a last resort, at least they didnt used to.

This all completly ignoring the fact that it was the battle of Salamis which was a naval battle that was the major turning point of the war because it forced Xerzes (however you spell his name) to retreat. It was the battle of Salamis that inspired people into the concluding battle which was battle of Plataea ending the war.
The battle of thermopylatae had little effect other than buy extra time for the prepeation of the navy and evacuation of cities, and it was actually the victory at Salamis that brought the pan-greek to the persians

how can you say though that buying time had little effect with out it history could have been totally different.

If you want accuracy watch national geo or discovery, everytime some period movie comes out people start moaning about it's accuracy.

Well welcome to Hollywood and the art of making "MOVIES" for the masses.

Dont get this "historical accuracies" thing at all.

The film is based on a COMIC BOOK, (and is quite true to it actually)

At the end of the day, its an action film with herioc buff spartans and evil unrealistic persians with a Gu'a'uld for an emperor.

and it rocks.

awsome action film.
