I guess, but it's not really violent type vicious is it? I always thought it was more of a tradition amongst the sports heads, sort of part of the game or fun, like hating the French. Or did they actually try and beat you up too?

No, it was just nasty. British humour about Australia is based on cultural stereotypes (any beer ad for instance), but its basically good-natured, and usually plays Australians in a good light, it certainly isn't the case in Australia; I remember the Tooheys campaign in particular was pretty vitriolic.

Struth, thank goodness for that. If they had been actually physically violent it would have shattered all my Neighbours watching illusions, but now I can carry on blissfully happy in the knowledge that a cup of tea with Susan Kennedy would soon calm everyone down.

Best bits for me was the success of our sailing team, easily the best there

Ben Ainsley winning a third gold for his 12 years of hard work (because sailors can only compete in one class),

Paul Goodison getting gold after his disappointment in Athens,

Sarah Ayton, Sarah Webb and Pippa Wilson getting a gold in whatever the hell a yngling is,

and

Iain Percy and Andrew Simpson with a last minute gold .

We got more gold medals in the sailing that any other nation got medals in total. We got double the total medals of any other nation

A huge well done to our sailors!

I'm not into sport at all and haven't really watched any of the games, but i was at the gym and was watching the athletes coming off the plane with all their medals on and made me a bit proud tbh,

We did bloody well considering the size of the other countries and the stock of sportsmen and women they have to choose from

best bit for me was matthew mitcham (aussie) winning the gold in the 10m diving with an olympic record scoring final dive, after the chinese finalist cocked up his last dive.

and a funny moment (although i can't find a clip of it anywhere) was the female weightlifter who dropped the bar, screamed and stormed off, went to turn to walk down a corridor and went straight into a wall.
