Was watching it yesterday, as they took it through London, and I'm watching it today as is goes through Paris... So far, its nothing more that a complete farce.
Yesterday, they needed 5 layers of protection on the damn thing, because people kept trying to run out and extinguish it. Several thousand protestors looked almost like a mob come the end of the day, as they waited for the Chinese ambassedor to attempt to pick up the flame to try and look like a 'good guy'. Had he done so, London would be currently burning to the ground.
But today in Paris it looks even worse, as they had to bring out the riot police and the Specials for prtoection (who also have a tendency of getting heavy handed). Thing is, it wouldn't be happening if they hadn't decided at the last olympics to 'parade the flame' in various cities.
Seriously, this is all new. True, you used to hae a relay thing going were the torch was lit and someone ran with it, handing it on at various places, to light the torch at the ceremony, but all this 'running through the cities' balls is just advertising. And we have months more of this crap to get through.
I turned on the news to see one guy with a bloody (and possobly broken) jaw, and one woman being manhandled by three guys into a police van. Is this what I have to look forward to for the next few dozen weeks? Anyone else think someones going to die before this is all over?
Thought and rants please
