Arrr i remember the days of levelling before half of albion was itemized or worth going to.
Its amazing how cool we think things are then look back realising the runied the old contentment we had with the sub-standard equipment etc.

I remember going to Yggdra in them days
I remember the camping
I rememeber the exping in snowdonia, ellylls etc....ah the days :(

Hehe, the yggdra days was the highlight of this game for me.. Kill some yellow/bluecon, run and hide, pray that impact won't get close :p That name still gives me the shivers and he's probably the reason those trips where so fun :>

And those trips were also the reason i didn't get that fast to 50 :p think i spent like 3 weeks just fighting in odins at level 30-35 ;)

Don't regret it for a second tho, that place was _crowded_ with people back then, and was great fun.

all this talk of RvR reminds of my very first trip to an RvR zone back in Beta (wiz named Tlb back then), nothing in the game has ever compared to going there for the first time and seeing the enemy for real, and my first trip included a 3 way battle in emain between the realms, that has to be my favorite moment in this game, when archers wernt gimped and played a strong role, and when the fights seemed more fair (no RA's etc) and most of all, noone gave a damn about stats, it was all about fun.

i fondly remember seeing my first glowy weapon when i was grouped in lyonesse some guy, forget who, had an ellyl sword and he gave it me to wield ( could see effects on others back then ofc :) ) and it was amazing. I was really jealous :p

Beta and early release were probably the most interesting times for me. Myself, Path and Zeb got beta accounts at the same time; I began with a saracen minstrel, Path started a saracen mercenary (don't ask) and Zeb started a highlander armsman. We decided those characters didn't quite work so me and Path restarted as Briton mercenaries. We persuaded one of Path's friends from the US servers to try the game here and got ourselves a cleric whom we helped level in Mithra with our little group. Unfortunately GOA wiped the servers about 24 hours later, we lost everything and he returned to the US servers very pissed off.

After that I created a cleric myself having seen how useful they were. At about this time we persuaded Boney to play but unfortunately he started on the German beta server by mistake! Third time around we did a better job of levelling and I have many fond memories of all the people we met in Keltoi. There were a couple of groups of us who were regular players down there (Mantric, Draven, Chuck, Mordred etc.) Since some friends of mine from Uni were playing now as well we almost had enough people to form a guild. After going over possible names in IRC for a long time we settled on Servants of the Lake. In game we founded the guild the next day, that original group of 8 was :

Gideon
Martin (ie. Path my old friend from TFC now Blaen)
Licker (one of Path's friends from UO)
Torm (Uni friend)
Lydek (Uni friend)
Dannyn (Uni friend who now works with me)
Shenonder (Uni friend)
Ronack (Zeb who created Ronack the friar after a character wipe)

That very night we recruited some of the guys who we had been exping down in Keltoi with, pooled our cash and had enough for an emblem. Thus the guild was born. Along the way we picked up a couple more people during beta so our original members list stood at something like :

Gideon
Boney
Martin
Dannyn
Lydek
Torm
Ronack
Shenonder
Nilo
Sune
Mantric
Draven
Chuck
Mordred
Eleasias
Vinland
Licker
Kedudok

Towards the end of beta I organised the first ever keep raid on the server when the highest level person in the realm was about 35 (this was either Licker or Thrinnor). The target was Nottmoor and we even went so far as to involve the Hibs because we didn't think we would have enough people. Path got in touch with Hotnhogg of Celtic Fist, I spoke to Thrinnor of Phoenix Legion, Gregorian from Guardians of Light and just about every other major guild GM on the server.

A couple of nights later we set off and met the Hibbies at the crossroads in Odins Gate. It was a tense time but miraculously no one attacked each other and we had our first ever neutral meeting. You can see a screen of it here :

After that we set off for the keep and setup our tank line (Alb and Hib tanks all standing shoulder to shoulder) :

I still have no idea to this day how we managed to communicate what was going on to each other but we did it. Luck was not on our side though, we pulled the guards and were killed to a man :(

Obviously more levels were needed but that was a pretty special night. We went back a couple more times over the next few weeks and finally on the 3rd or 4th go we took the keep :) There have been many other high points but I think that first keep attempt during beta was one of the highlights of my playing time. First Afanc kill during retail (at a time when the epic mobs barely ever dropped anything) made me smile as well, Coren got his Afanc hide cloak there :

I remember when we actually lvled in emain for hours and hours on grannys and no enemy disturbed the peace at all. Even soloing for exp in the frontier was possible. Weird times.

The game is different, some better some worse, but sure is different.

The excitement of levelling at the Undead Camp and every now and then hearing "Invader" and running for cover.

The joy of each new drop keeping someone in the group happy for a week, and 100% qual 100af didn't exist.

But, as a game evolves, so must the players I suppose ... albeit the player who has built up the most funds, will be the one able to craft the best SC suit nowdays.

We have had Darkness Falls, and Dodens Gruva, I hope SI will bring the same excitement of a new place to visit, on a much larger scale.

And I am especially looking forward to the Corpse Summoner ...

Hindsight...

I have a lot of memories of the game.
most good, some bad.
but I think I mostly miss the simplicity.

back then it seemed as if we just did things. instead of whine about it for weeks on end, and eventually end up nowhere.

but then again, the game was still fresh for everybody, and there was a lot more eagerness all around.

BETA days were as good as it got :) Remember heading to HMG in odin's to pick up the Hibs with Mantric; almost jumped out of my chair when their zerg arrived :) It was a more innocent time, BETA *sighs* :)

beta was excellent fun!
hehe I was a pala, shockhorror and I didn't understand anything about the game so I happily bought leather armour: because it has higher af :)
Then release - the general excitement of lvling up anywhere and seeing new things. I was trying to defend on that first mid power relic raid, I managed to stealth to the relic while the raid was on the 2 red's spotted me and ouch byebye lil me hehe.
The old times in yggra and emain were also very fun, minstrels were rare in those days so I got groups with lvl 40's even though I was only 34 in RVR, was so proud of myself when I managed to make 1000rp's in one day back then. Group chats were fun etc... used to ferry the old sotl and crusaders people round emain because giona was farming at mpk :)
givf new game with new excitement!

I still remember one of my first times in Emain when i was lvl 3x, met a guy called Biggles who was then a lvl 45/+ pala, teamed up with him and spent hours playing till the early hours of the morning using hit and run tactics on a fg of mids.
One of the most rememberely rvr events I've been in.

I also miss it all, having played beta a bit and since release day. The first few months were the greatest, levelling up, not know what new spells you'd get next etc :) I especially miss the old Nemesis, we had some great times xping in emain, was always a race between us and warders :D I miss all the old nemesis guys, Cruz, Zufad, Kulgan, Herra, Boulder etc..there are are many more. Those were truly the most exciting times of daoc, going out for rvr for the first time, storming around yggdra looking for invaders :) I remember the first time I saw a fire giant in muspelheim, I thought OMG IT'S MASSIVE! heh. Not the same now at all, there is nothing undiscovered its pretty lame. There should be ultra uber rare items that noone has even had yet and are yet to be found, stuff so rare that only one person on every five servers would have it, I think its pretty sad that info on everything can be found on the web there is no mystery anymore.

remember when Mids tried to take keeps ... we had exactly two people who even had a -chance- to hit the Lord (Loki and Moron).

...but Licker ... Licker ? ... LICKER !!! ARGH ! ... and DTM ofc ...

Mid-Zerg approaching amgE : DTM is the guy in the middle, ALL attack him !

...and the fearded Champion Commander

felt good when I saw a CC die for the first time :p

now it's just 'been-there, done-that' :(
