Anyone misses those times just after Daoc was released on Europa?

No massive sb population,no buffbots, rvr was refreshing even mids did wash hibs and albs all the way :) there was no biggie mobs to fight the loot for.

Was no arguing, was having fun going to odin in lvl 20 and be sure to find even con opponents and avoid warders purple gank group.

Not to mention Yggdra and Cruz who protected that place like his home,or swimming race on yggdra lake with red dwarf on your tail.

Aaah those were times :) anyone else feels this way or current way is better for them?

Edit: yes solid it was Cruz :D

Nope. It's better now. More areas. More monsters. More challenges. More equality between realms. More people. More friends. More fun.

the only aspect i miss in some respects is having an unknown world to explore and being pretty noobish. everything was an adventure back then :)

Down think it was Cruz u are talking bout, the Troll Skald of Nemesis that guarded Yggdra so vigilantly :D

And yes old days were the good days :D was a lot of fun no hassle the game was nice and simple, no epic armours no spellcrafting :D

rvr was certainly better in the old days.. you would never see moR than 1 fg running around.. lots of people used to solo and there was basically no zergs™

But the game has alot more content now

yeah, i miss those times, i remember taking Agraucred to the APK in emain when mids used to camp it, was great fun, dodged then blocked 2 shots from sinister when he was 50 and i was 28, had me in shock, but that was before the nerf bat got swung a few more times at archers.

the thing i miss most is enjoying my wizard, from about lvl20-30 there was about 10 of us that always ended up grouping or waiting to join the regular group, what ever happened to Anthony, Priest, Averlon(sp) and Bacon? about 5 of us just seemed to stop our chars at the same lvl and not seen them since.

Pretty much sums up everything I wanted to say.

There was nothing better than that first day I walked up to my guild with Cerebus in a full set of chain and a massive shield. I felt very cool, not a lot of people had chain back then.

Nowadays you never see anything new... (Well until SI comes out that is)

I miss the good old days too. Especially the first month or so, where everyone was new, everything was new, noone was signifcantly better than another, noone had SC armour etc, and lvl25 meant u were high enough to go to rvr. I remember going out to rvr with a hero I had at the who was tbh the biggest gimp in the game coz I had no idea what I was doing. He was a pierce/blade/parry/shield/spear/large weapon spec hero :p Gimped to hell in other words, but was fun.

But at lvl25 u could go to emain with a group of all roughly the same lvl and have some good fights without zergs. Fights would last longer and be generally fairer due to no RA's, SC armour etc. Getting to emain was hard due to all the purp aggro on the way but that was part of the fun. And 50g was alot of money at the time :)

Was on mid back in the early days and a few memories spring to mind:

- Mids camping APK constantly for like 2 months :)

- Hunting snowcrabs in Uppland with a group around 25ish and suddenly a lev 40ish hunter dressed in all black with a purple bow (sinister) ran past us, took one of them huge, purple con crabs as a pet and disappeared. The group chat was like "WHOA", "omg", "how cool was that".

- Adventures in Muspel, getting lost and killed oh so many times.

- "Quality on the weapon? Who cares, this one got more DPS" :)

I remember these guys :)
Anthony, Priest and Averlon were all Circle of Power members.
Anthony got screwed up by GOA corrupting his char so started a diff char but no longer plays.
Priest no longer plays.
Averlon started a scout - Arrows to about lvl 40+ - but also no longer plays.

Bacon - Didn't he have red or pink plate? Anyone no longer sighted.

I do miss the mystique of the game back then when everything was new. I don't miss getting owned by mids everytime we ventured out of a border keep - although a successfull retake of hurbury was like WOW! And then trying to defend it at lvl 35 when that was fairly high with only a few lvl 40-42's albs.

Also our capture of bledmeer night before patch with all our 35+ albs while we sent all <35 albs to emain to play with the middies was a good laugh :)

Those memories... Back in the days when I enjoyed the game fully :( Now it all just seems so... pointless...

/hug

PS. Playing back then was more fun, game has risen up in quality alot from since. Except now with RAs, SC and upcoming SI, bye bye noncapped people... Everyone has capped stats, resists, skills and high amount of RAs, buffbots etc etc... :(

It was indeed Cruz who used to patrol the Midgard frontier. I remember a small group of us wandering around Odin's mid-30s and we got jumped by a 50 Hib caster. We were getting mown down til Cruz came in out of nowhere and smeared the bugger, stayed till we got ourselves healed and recharged, then resumed his patrolling.

When Cruz quit the game, a lot of us missed him, even if we didn't know him so well.

I remember the major guild of albion mobilising to storm and take this place I'd never heard off called "Cear Berkstead". Took about 50-60 of us, all level 30-40. I remember being terrified of all those very purple npc jarls (back in the days when all 21 keeps would often be mid-controlled).
Can also remember the elation when the lord finally fell before us.
After taking 3 keeps in under an hour with a single group of 8 (pre-1.54), I kind of miss those days.

I remember seeing a person in black dyed armour and going " Jeez he must be loaded ". But now its all im uber capped in this, that, and the other. RA's, SC have killed the game off. I thought this was meant to be a roleplaying game. Now its just a case of my chars more uber than yours and i can hit you 500+ dmg per hit. MMORPG more like WAR. Mythic have fucked up big time with this game and should have called it Counter Strike... The Yesteryears. :(

Why is it any attempt at a rational discussion invariably descends into a flame fest in this place?

Who's flaming ??? i just giving my valid description of the game. How good it was in the old days and how poor its got now.

Those days I played in mid/pryd.. Soulfly was the only alb that I ever saw conned red, usually he was orange, like the rest of alb gank scoud, Coren, Giona, Vestax, Derric, Marc, Walker... miss the old guild <Chosen>, they had the sweetest emblem of all realms on prydwen.

Cruz was a born leader, miss him, think he left us for US servers, dunno if he still playes..

Remeber the red big mob in emain, that all tree realm ganked on :)

Remeber my first emain trip, we where 30-40ppl lvl 5-20, not many of us knew what rvr was then..

I miss being able to run around emain just me (air then too) and jenkz (use to be a smite cleric) and have fun without being zerged.

The old days are missed very much.

Yep. I miss the old days, too.

What I miss, like most others, is having a whole new world to explore, like the first time Isadien took a group of us down in to Dartmoor to kill, then deep purple con, ponies and failing miserably :)

I miss going to Odin's with a full group at 30-40 and not knowing where the hell I was or what to expect.

I miss my first trips in to new places like the first time I went in to the Barrows.

Most of all I think I miss the sense of community the realm as a whole had, it took much more effort to achieve things, like massive keep-raid teams and the like.

I still enjoy DAoC but I think, like most things, it will never regain the kind of 'magic' it used to hold.

Cruz was a top bloke, wish he'd come back, he knew every frontier like it was his own bedroom. too bad he left though :\

I remember going out to Snowdonia (I was about level 15) to 'help' with a relic defence -- this was the first time Mids took our power relic, and then held it for months and months. I'd never even seen a relic and neither had most of the other people there ... but we thought it was very sad when Jill reported that she'd been the last person standing in the relic tower and had seen them take the staff away.

Our group almost got wiped out on the way to Myrddin when we ran into a group of 3 ultra-purple arawnites on the way (fortunately we had some high level fighters with us, ie. lvl 27ish or so)

It was all about exploring the realm, and finding new places to level... even upto lv30 and travelling south to cornwall, then Lyonesse and seeing those Telamons for the first time, thinking: Damn, is it safe to walk along that road?

I'm hoping SI will bring back some of that adventuring.

RvR was crap at the start, Mids had a significant advantage.
But it's alot better now, as all three realms are equal in ability.

I remember when a group of us would go exp'ing in Snowdonia for the Arawanite chain. We would have so much fun and I was so scared since everything was purple. And my group yelling Mez IT!! Hehe yeah right like I had a chance, but still I tried like hell. Then of course Sinister and his friends would come and kill us (always giving us exp deaths, btw :( NOT COOL) So imagine my excitement when I mez him once even though he's purple. Okay so the mez lasted like 5 seconds but still it gave me hope!

My first trip to the Barrows was so scary. All I had heard from Lakarell (Cathal at the begining of retail) was how great it was and how much money you could get from hunting. And I would beg him to take me along and he would kick me aside and tell me, "Be gone, wench and bake me a cake!". (okay okay he didn't REALLY say that *giggle*) .

Oh and taking Hurbury... that was a laugh. Took us an hour to sort out rams I think. *laughs* Took most of the realm but we did it. /flex

Other great things about the game:
-being able to mez red/purple ellylls when the guys finally gave in and took me with.
-helping to kill Sinister
-marrying Choppy

Elise's comment about qual vs. dps... omg so very true!!

Yes the game has lost its new-ness, but tell me your hearts didn't race the first time you went and explored Darkness Falls or the new dungeons in our newest patch?

Just teaches us to enjoy and cherish the game and not turn it into a pissing contest.
