Pictures from the slick. There are a couple that really stunning to look at but i dread to think what the price will be -ecologically - to pay for this slick.

Disaster unfolds slowly in the Gulf of Mexico - The Big Picture - Boston.com

Was reading somewhere now that the estimate rate for the slick - according to BP - is 5,000 barrels but some people reckon its at 70,000 barrels. If it is the 2nd figure this is even bigger then the Exxon Valdez spill and only God knows when it will be stopped :(

Last i read, it at about 5000 barrels a day but it can easily worsen to get upto the 70000 barrels if things dont get sorted and the pressure is too much in the pipes.

Sooner they get this sorted the better, but the depth of pipes make this so difficult :(

Perhaps when people stop being greedy for oil products.

I noticed in the comments that some are blaming Obama. Is this really anyones fault?

Obama isnt to blame, he is fuming though at the companies involved and the finger pointing in the commitee meetings.

Basically... BP blame the company that built the rig, the company that built it blame BP and the company that is in charge of working the rig.

Basically the problem is 3 companies all pointing fingers and the way all this was run makes it complicated.

BP hired a company2 to build the rig and the safety devices (safety device deemed to have failed)

Company2 builds the rig (insists they not at fault for failure, point to company 3)

BP hire Company3 to run the rig on their behalf. Company 3 state they followed all regulations and their staff done nothing wrong - they basically state that BP are the company that controls the rig so are liable if Company2 are not liable.

.

Think that pretty much explains things, I just skim read the details so may be slightly off base. Just trying to keep an eye on what is happening.
Was a shame that BP's "oil capture box" had problems in deployment. The thing started to freeze up as they were taking it down and they had to abort. Not sure if they managed to place it yet.

Looks less then one would imagine though.

You know? It doesn't look as bad as it is.

Republicans live for reciprocity.

They are trying to sell this as Obamas Katrina which is laughable.
