The transport police who came out to interview me were of the exact same opinion - what I did wasn't dangerous, just against the law. Their thinking was on the closed barriers (like the one I ran) the train doesn't appear for 2 minutes after the barriers come down. I know this as I used to cross one every day. If there was a chance I wouldn't have made it I wouldn't have gone. Simple as.

So now the BTP condone your actions because they weren't dangerous because there is absolutely no chance of anything whatsoever going wrong and if it did then of course 2 minutes is more than enough time for any eventuality.

Also it isn't a set time, as standard, for every level crossing. Linespeed and other variables are taken into consideration for automatic crossings.

Oh, and I also like the way that your story has gone from 'I couldn't stop safely' to 'If there was a chance I wouldn't have made it I wouldn't have gone'.

As for me 'swearing and calling you names', that doesn't detract from the point that what you did WAS dangerous regardless of what you or a couple BTP officers (who should know better than to make rediculous statments) think.

Anyway there is a difference between going round a half barrier crossing and putting your foot down to get through open barriers before they shut. All I did was use the inherent safety margin in the safest type of crossing in the UK. Hence why the BTP said it wasn't that dangerous.

We've all done it. (maybe not THAT but something as daft). I "forgot" a junction existed when I T-boned a larger car at 60mph. In a 40 limit.

Anyway I didn't so much run the lights as decide to go through them rather than hauling my anchors on and ending up on the crossing. I just hope in future I don't come across any more level crossings literally just after blind bends with no decent signage.

But coming around a blind bend and finding flashing lights is easier to drive straight through than finding the barriers down and slamming on breaks only to find you don't have enough stopping distance...

The point is you should never be driving so fast as to not be able to stop in the distance you see to be clear ahead. It could be level crossing gates, a car, a cyclist, a horse, a pedestrian.....

If you can't stop safely, you're going too fast - dangerous driving. I'd say Bodhi was lucky to get away with 3 months.

i wouldn't when the standard penalty is a fine and 3 points, something else I was advised of by the Transport Police. If they thought it was dangerous after I said exactly what I said earlier in my statement, surely they'd have charged me with dangerous driving? A 3 month ban does seem a bit harsh, but at the end of the day, I should have tried stopping and not risked it. The brakes on a Golf GTi were far better than I gave em credit for. It was me what did so it's me what has to take the punishment.
