Bought the Doom Collectors Edition today (All 3 dooms on 1 cd, Ultimate Doom, Doom 2 and Final Doom), and downloaded the jDoom updates for it, and that's the result.

WOOP :D

/me is in retro gaming heaven.

Last time I played Doom of any kind was 6 years ago :)

£10 in Game & EB for the Collectors Edition. Well worth it. Especially with all the new fangled features given by jDoom:

Mouselook
True 3D polygon Enemies and artifacts (weapons, armour etc)
Jumping(!)
Dynamic lighting
3D Audio (very freaky this)
CD Quality Sound
High Res gameplay (I play it at 1280*1024 and it's smooth as feck)

strange.. my I got 4 original DooM flopies
I instaleld them the other day to try and see what XP would make of "Dos4protected games" - it took it all in its stride.

I now use "Vavoom" instead of zDoom or jDoom to get the extra toys and multiplayer functionality - seems to run better and better 3D models

But surely having better models and other enhancements negates the reson for playing Doom again?

I just love playing DooM once in a while - you can run it as it is in "software" mode, but the main use of the source ports is the fact that you can play over TCP/IP and join DM or CTF servers. Plus I guess playing the game in 3D in openGL or D3D is a bonus

the main problem for me is that is runs so dam fast FPS wise that I get motion sickness after about 15 minutes of gametime!

:puke:

You're right, tis 4 not 3 :)

And USB mice won't work with a base install of Doom, but the newer ports of Doom (jDoom etc) fix that :)

URL for Vavoom?
