NView Vista?

Ello!

Looks like after all this BSOD crap I'll be installing vista. I'm running my little trial vista installation currently, trying out some crap. I've just installed the latest Nvidia drivers but I can't seem to get the system tray icon for the NVidia Control Panel and there's no sign of nview?

I've checked online and some very old threads seem to suggest that neither of these is available on vista yet - surely they've sorted this now?

If this is the case, anyone know of a workaround for what I need to do? I'm trying to set up a shortcut to flick my screen output from my monitor to my projector and back. Not having this is going to be a seeeerious pain in the botty.

TIA!

You should have the system tray icon, I do.

Nview pretty much doesn't exist under Vista. There's a similar, but shite, program called nvidia system tools. I couldn't do anything with it.

Gah - no notification icon at all, no option to enable it.

Do you know of a way I can assign a shortcut key to switch display output? Any alternative software or anything?

The first thing I do when installing nVidia drivers is disable the damn tray icon and any associated process :)

Triffic! But I actually need it if I've got no feking nview. I don't relish the idea of having to switch monitor via the standard windows route, that's a major ballache.

Nath, under the advanced Nvidia control panel there should be "Set up multiple displays" - everything under that gives you all the nView options (at least thats what I have here).

Thing is, I helped someone do exactly this a while ago and I can't remember for the life of me if it resulted in me trying out a hacked driver or addition or something :/

Let me know if it's not there and I'll look into it.

The option I'm after doesn't appear to be there mate. Basically what I'm after is the ability to flick from one monitor to another in as simple a fashion as possible. Preferably via a keycommand so I can do it blind. I often use my projector to watch a film and then switch off the computer directly from there. I'd like to be able to switch on the computer again and flick back to my monitor without having to switch on the projector first to navigate to the options.

Thanks in advance, Kryt :)

I've had a good hunt around and can only find the conclusion that I wasn't able to offer any more help than "for that purpose, go buy another card". Does rather seem like nVidia are stiffing us for that sort of thing, and a rare occasion where ATI come back into their own.

Either way, I'm gonna keep my eye open for some 3rd party drivers or software. The only program that keeps popping up in searches is "UltraMon", although it's not free. It might be otherwise obtainable though ;)
I've no means to test it myself but may be worth a look at.

Heh, it seems you read exactly the same threads I did. I'm astounded there's not more threads out there in the wide wide world of web that have people bitching about this, it's rubbish.

Ah well, I'll have a gander at Ultramon to see what I can find. Where's Clown when you need him, he knew loads about multimonitor crapola :\

Thanks anyway Kryt :)

Kryt, you're awesome. I just installed ultramon - it does EXACTLY what I need it to do, and does it better than Nview did. Thanks a lot man :)

Bonus, I'll bookmark that site for future reference, it's not the first time I've been asked that.

Still annoys me greatly that nVidia didn't see fit to include it in the drivers as they had previously, especially when there's a much smaller 3rd party out there providing software to do exactly that.

Edit:

Would it be incredibly egotistical or possibly even childish to point out my reputation score is currently 1337? :)

I had exactly this problem on one of my machines and simply rolled back to XP to make life easier. I do a lot of presentations and need to be able to flick back and forth between two screens quickly and without fuss often while I addressing an audience, and simply couldn't find a way to do it effectively in Vista.

Seems Nvidia and microsoft didn't talk to each other much during the development of Vista. I mean look at the nforce 2 and 3 chipsets as a prime example.

nVidia in general seem to be taking a real back seat these days, it certainly seems as if they're making fewer and fewer friends in the industry. They're out of favour with Intel, AMD have shafted them, and their new lineup of hardware isn't floating too many folks' boats.
