I can't think of any which are better than PowerDVD.

I have never had a problem with it.

You could try:

WinDVD
ATIDVD

This one is free I think

DVDSoft

This link has a lot more info

Thanks Mr Emb, getting it now :)

Dys: Largely PDvD 4 has been fine, and it has some loverly audio options, but it refuses to play certain discs I have, although the copy I got with my lappy seems to play them fine, but I generally watch DVDs on my main PC.

PowerDVD is fine for me except sometimes it changes my resolution to something stupid and makes my monitor turn itself. ThenI have to go through the process of starting in safe mode

PowerDVD acts wierd when I do SPDIF passthru to sound card. The video and sound go out of sync - the video coming after the sound ;/

Asus V8200, and latest Dets.

It ain't the card though, cos the DVDs v4.0 refuses to play were fine with v3.0

I got an Abit-ised version of WinDVD with my Geforce 4 Ti4600. I'm using it, although it doesn't offer anything different from the bog standard Intervideo offering.

Edit: And I just installed WinDVD 4.05 and the lip-synching problems have disappeared on mpeg files. :)

What soundcard are you using? If it's an SB no wonder, the internal clock is shit

nvDVD is prettier but seems more sensitive to region settings than PowerDVD, which has more features.

Are you doing semi complex things like using SPDIF which should work, but doesn't?

I have the Audigy Plat and it works fine, although the SPDIF is a little quiet....problems with this area seem to generally affect non creative speakers.

It's loosing sync with the video 'cause the clock that is meant to keep everything working together is very jittery, if you try syncing stuff up with midi you'll have the same problem :/

Uhm, I don't think there's any real solution except trying different dvd decoder thingies and hoping that one of them prefers your combination

Edit; If when you start getting the sync problems you drag the shuttle bar slightly back, it'll restart the decoding and hopefully your problems should go away, irritating, but at least it does fix it up

When I had synching issues before (video was before audio), I fiddled with the hardware accelaration settings in WinDVD. It fixed it for DVD's, but not for mpg's.

How can you have a lip-synching problem on an mpeg ?

A DVD has 2 seperate channels for the video and audio whereas on an mpeg it's all together. The only way you'd get a problem is if the mpeg was created from a DVD rip done on a PC which had DVD lip-synching problems. In which case the mpeg is fu><0red and needs to be re-ripped.

I may be wrong on all this though :)

Well, an MPG as in an MPEG1 stream. I noticed it on my Family Guy eps... It went away now I installed WinDVD 4.05 though, so... shrug... :)
