Number plate legality?

A small time ago my friends dad had a ticket slapped on his car in the early morning. The car at the time was on his driveway, off the public roads. Irregardless a ticket was issued.

The reason for the ticket being placed onto the car was because the number plate according to them was classed as illegal. Its a personalised number plate which has the Liverpoo FC insignia placed where you would normally find the "EU" or "GB" insignia.

They got into contact with the DVLA over this issue, and DVLA basically said "Its a grey area, its not right nor is it wrong". If this is the case, how could any fine issued actually stand if there was no clear guidelines by them?

Picture can be seen:

Woops, made it far too large!

I said it was probably because it was a Manc fan. Dont think that would stand up well though!

I was under the impression that you had to have either the GB flag or the EU flag, although the jocks and taffs have escaped by persuading the EU that they actually exist as countries, which is why they can show their flag.

Whoever slapped the ticket must either have been a rival football fan or someone who needs to make up their monthly totals, it's a pretty jobsworthy thing to do IMO.

I couldnt edit the post [Again!] because the 10minutes expired. But i slightly got the wrong end of the stick while this was being explained.

Reworked reasoning: A friend of my friends dad had some personalised number plates done (Which had the football insignia on them). The dad decided that he wanted some as well.

He had them made. Anyway, the FRIEND is the one who had the ticket issued for "illegal number plates", not my friends dad. However he has promptly taken off the actual number plates because he doesnt want to be landed with a ticket either.

DVLA have said nothing of use though, stating that its a mere "grey area".

Why would you want them on your car anyway.

So, basically you want Evertonians to set fire to your car?

The plates are illegal. There was actually a news story about this very issue in the Metro (or some other free sheet, I forget) last week. They don't want anything on your plate that might affect their precious ANPR system.

I wouldn't pay the ticket - if the car is parked on your driveway you can paint the whole thing pink and turn the number plates into mirrors if you like. Fuck what anyone else thinks of it.

Drive it on the road tho...

And looking at that PDF - it doesn't look like it's illegal anyway - so I wouldn't stump up if I got stopped by the cops - I'd fight it.

The Conways intend to change their licence plates and pay the £30 fines rather than go to court.

As would I. But just because they coughed up 30 quid a piece to save themselves the hassle of seeking legal advice, going to court (probably multiple times), possible appeals etc, doesn't make it illegal.

CONFORM! CONFORM! YOU MUST ALL CONFORM!!

PC Wog Kicker said:
"According to the regulations, registration plates are only permitted to display an acceptable international symbol or flag"

Just like a fucking cop. Takes the regulations and makes them say what he wants. Probably just before harassing Mahatma Ghandi and Mother Theresa for holding hands in public.

Fucking pigs.

Man. I could incite people to violence today with the mood I'm in :(

If it's not standard, it's illegal. I don't see why people have such a problem understanding that rule.

The ones in silly fonts are the worst or ones done with silly spacing on some crap personalised plate - glad to see these laws being enforced frankly - bit late tho...

I'd like to get them all in a room and shove their ANPR technology so far up their arses they can recognise the backs of their own teeth.

The amount of this invasive crap we are getting dumped on us under the guise of "anti terrorism" really is pissing me off, and the Mail reading sheep lap it up......

I was told earlier that the ticket my friends-dad-friend got was actually quashed.

The person who issued the ticket went around and gave them a leaflet/book on number plate legality.

Still seems like the apparent "grey area" but alas
