Can anyone recommend a good adsl provider?
Looks like sky, bt and another company will be getting my money in future.
I’m sure all the numbnuts on the NTL support desk will have no problem finding new jobs when more NTL customers leave. The industry is crying out for incompetent semi knowledgeable network support staff.

Copy of email i sent.

As requested i have sent the various trace routes required. to send dos trace route. As usual this doesnt show a problem on NTL router but back trace results do.

As you can see from above there is a problem with my connection showing massive packet loss so please do not come back and tell me theyeve checked it and everything is ok. Now next trace route is from the opentransit looking glass (http://www.opentransit.net/lg.htm ) which enables me to trace back to my IP address (xx.xxx.xx.xx) from Opentransit domain which is the last hop before the server im trying to connect to.

Query: trace
Router: pasbb1.opentransit.net

As you will see more packet loss shows this time on the ntl domain starting between Renfrew a and renfrew b (hop 9)
This problem only started occuring since the scheduled maintenance on 12th may when they rerouted the way i connect to this particular server.

How on earth the people who have looked at this can say there isnt a problem is totally beyond all comprehension. The problem seems to be between two routers at the same site - the bb-a and bb-b routers at Renfrew. Now, since they're in the same building, presumably, the link between them isn't very long.

Now just cos your tests don't show anything doesn't mean there isn't a problem, there are plenty of things that could happen to be local to an area or a side (each area has a b side and an a side, if there's a problem on the b side but you go down the a side it will appear fine - see below)

To whit, tracing from another area to Teeside is fine, but the route could be
poplar b
leeds a
middlesboro a

or maybe From level3 to the Middlesbrough a side goes
renfrew a
leeds b
leeds a
middlesboro a

The loss happens between the a and b Renfrew bb routers, the other traces are fine because they take different routes. This specifically affects the Middlesbrough b side traffic that joins the ntl network in Renfrew, thus Swansea and places further south seem to be ok as they bypass it.

You'd need to get onto those bb routers in Renfrew and check them over to get a handle on it, but obviously I cant do this, hence it needs to be raised to someone who can.

If FMT don't believe there's a problem then that's a worry, it looks pretty cast iron that something is wrong somewhere up there. I have spoken to some helpful people in Network admin in sprintlink and Opentransit who confirmed what i have said and indeed ran there own tests. In my opinion though whether or not it wasnt an ntl router fault (although i know it is) is irrelevant as my contract is with NTL not sprintlink or opentransit to maintain my network connection.

I have been in networks for almost 10 years and never have i come across such as abysmal lack of service as i have with NTL. even down to being promised call backs but never getting them. If this is not rectified soon i will be cancelling my contract and indeed suing NTL for breach.

Had no problem yesterday but tonight has been bloody murder Have had to leave what looks like a very promising night in bg0. As such I figure I'm gonna start looking for another provider.

Hopefully someone from ntl will read this and realise that they are neglecting an important part of their customer base for broadband.

Doh bet you wished you waited to do this now?

Darbey's post on BT Broadband

EDIT: Darbey your bit is down a bit ;)

You should tell em to cancel your account and threaten to sue for their failure to provide a service unless somewhere in the mass of legalese it says they don't support online gaming where you need a constant connection (which I doubt).

Bunch of dorks at NTL , i was telling them till i was blue in the face check the routers betwen renfrew a and b and voila what did horlix_uk post on ntl forum i quote

"ok, sorted.

fault was due to a defective gigabit ethernet link between ren-bb-a and ren-bb-b.

for now the interface has been taken out of service (as a temporary solution), and the link will be replaced on Monday as a permanent fix.

hope that means a more pleasant gaming experience for you guys over the weekend :)"

They should listen to the customers sometimes.

Anyhow thanks to Horlix. Good job we have the power of the forum or nothing would ever get done.

sue them all you want. you wont win jack shit because there is no where in the contract thay guarantees any quality of service, theyd end up suing you for loss of earnings or something by wasting their time in court.
