NTL in DNS attack?

Not a tech question but just a discussion.

I'm currently connected via a dial-up modem (How quaint! I've not heard a dial-up connecting for ages, it brings back memories :p).

This is because my broadband doesn't work. Lots of possible reasons for this but after a dozen attemps to speak to NTL, whose telphone hotlines are getting cut off or engaged and checking there website now they're saying ALL of their users on ALL packages will ot be able to use the internet/email etc due a DNS.

Well bugger me! They're a bit of a large service provider to have that kind of problem, Surely?

And are any other ISP's being hit?
How about Telewest for instance or BT?

use a differebt dns server - i use

62.232.80.36

ntl prolly have their dns server running on a 286.

That ip's a business server so therefore doesnt get any traffic after 6pm.

Telewests DNs is b0rked too at the minute and i've spoke to some guys in other Euro countries on irc and they are having same problems on various euro isps.

However after doing a ipconfig /flushdns in start/run cmd mine seems fine :)

Well now we are getting into the realms of the tech forum :)

"Me Tarzan, you PC!"

Is pretty much how I treat networking problems. I switch it on, it works. If not I call the RAC or the AA (Who pass me onto NTL) :p

From pipex:

Two routing/traffic issues are currently affecting PIPEX customers.

A major backbone link between the UK and USA is down.

Additionally, an unrelated intermittent routing problem at our North London site has affected traffic flow for some ADSL users.

Reason its from there is it was a rare link i could actually click on that worked :)

Hell, I just lost connection on a dial-up!

If the whole internet goes down it would be a case of

"Where were you when the internet died?"

:D

Of course, maybe that won't happen. :p

Anyway I'm logging off, cant afford to use a DIAL-UP ffs!

Pipex has been porked like a pie today as well. Seems to have recovered, but she got a few scratches along the way.

BT is working fine for me, mostly. The above does at least explain why I have been having trouble accessing an American site I use. Thanks for that :)

I've had really poor performance off NTL lately, especially from the email servers, which are CRAP.

So how do you change that DNS thingy? Will it make my computer any different when on the internet? Does it affect anything?

I had major problems getting to parts of the Microsoft website earlier, may be related.

It's working again now, mind.
