NT4 Gurus needed

Right. Recently I have been having a major problem with NT4. The mouse decides to be the most useless piece of shit on the planet. It moves at 1/4 the speed it used to, which means I need to go across the mouse pad about 4 times just to go across the desktop. It also decides to double click at times when I dont want it to (altho I have noticed this in 98 aswell).

My mouse is a Microsoft Intellimouse with Intellieye plugged into the PS/2 port, due to NT4's problem with USB.

Any help gratefully recieved. Any flames/upgrade to 2k comments not appreciated :)

Bodhi.

Dead wierd, I had the same prob with a user at work. I compensated for it by accelerating the mouse. It then worked fine. After a while she called and said her mouse was too fast. I turned it down again and all has been well since. I have no explanation but it's fine now. It too was an IntelliEye jobby. Out of about 12 intellieye's that I've bought at work, about 7 have died or gone nuts.

As for a proper post, have you done the usual drivers reinstall (from scratch, totally removing the old ones)?

I reinstalled service pack 6a, which seemed to work for a quick fix, the put the IntelliPoint gubbins on and it seems to work much better now. Still the old random double clicks, but its OK now.

No. Its shit and unstable.

I could tell one of the unwashed would mention linux. Also shit, and in my experience, more unstable than Windows 3.0. I counted 6 crashes during installation before I gave up and put NT4 back on. Windows may crash a bit more than Linux, BUT AT LEAST YOU CAN INSTALL THE FUCKER WITHOUT IT CRASHING IN SOME HOMOSEXUAL MANNER.

Bodhi. I would seriously upgrade to win2k. I, like yourself am a stalwart NT4 user but there are some things that the os just cannot do.
Like play most games :)
Seriously tho, ive found win2k to be just as stable as NT4. Give it a go. :D

I would install Win 3.1 before I put win2k on. If I want to play games I drop down to 98 and play them there. In NT4 my machine has crashed once in the past 3 months. In 2k If I get 3 crashes in 1 week Im quite chuffed at how stable my machine is.

I think you over exagerrate the supposed unstableness of Win2k tho you are bang on about NT4 crashing once in 3 months, it is rock stable.

perhaps you should look at what you're installing m8.
tho i am what you call 'one of the unwashed' [ie. a linux user], i was quite chuffed with w2k, 'specially after the service pack.
i installed my usuall load of stuff [office 2k, nutscrape, seti, halflife, UT] and i didn't turn the pc off for 2 months just to [sic] 'give it a go'. it did not crash.
