Proven Slimming Pill On Sale Soon: Orlistat Will Be Available From Pharmacies | UK News | Sky News

I have a BMI of 31.5 so am apparently clinically obese

these are the first slimming pills that have been allowed without a prescription in the UK and will be available in a few months.

I try to do exercise but i am basically a lazy sod, i try to eat healthly as well but i am still overweight, i want to get my BMI to about 26 so that means i need to lose 42 pounds.

would any of you guys think of using this type of pill as well as healthy eating and exercise as a means of losing weight.

I've been prescribed this stuff before.
Yes it works, but you have to be prepared for the side effects.
If you don't reduce your fat intake, you WILL get the runs and the toots. It's so bad that you might think you're farting but end up with shit it in your pants. Some people can't hack it and get off them in a couple of weeks.

If you're serious about wanting to lose some weight, then this stuff helps as long as you diet and exercise as well. If you're expecting the pounds to fall off just by popping a pill, you'll be disappointed.

Exactly, bright orange shits...the fat its getting rid of.

So if you go out and have a fish supper then take one of these pills you will be shitting orange for a few hours after.

I don't totally agree with this BMI thing, it doesn't take into account your build, some people are built small and some built big, I am 6 foot 4 and when I weighed 13 stone I was just as big, still had a 36 inch waist.

Indeed, most rugby players come out as clinically obese with the BMI test. I'd probably come out as "wooden rake - not human."

Even a couple of years ago, when I was uber-fit and the healthiest I've been in years, I was still technically "overweight" according to my doctor. Its bollocks. I do need to lose about 2 stone now though.

i dont believe in pills for this sort of thing, it wont change your lifestyle and thats what's probably the cause of been overweight in the first place, that is pretty easy for me to say tho i suppose, im one of those annoyin little shits who can eat crap all day long and not gain an ounce.

i do have a bit of a pot belly, weigh in at just under 10stone (beer abuse!) and im small only 5"5 :( so it shows up quite badly, but ive decided to bite the bullet and start eating better and going to the gym 3 times a week. i dont need to lose weight but i just want a healthier lifestyle before i do start putting on weight and im too old to give a shit.

honestly if you really want to lose weight the best way is simply to start excercising and eating right, and changing your lifestyle.

Like chipper and wazzer I am a skinny fuck, but I know I have abused my body with shit food and alcohol for too long. Been doing a lot of cardio as well as weights at the gym past two weeks. Eating healthy and excercising is the answer first. Seek medical answers if these things do not work first, if nothing else the excercise will make you feel better.

The question is: Do you want to be on tablets for the rest of your life with grease running down the backs of your legs and shit in your pants, or do you want to eat less?

Well I'm 5ft 8-ish, and just under 14 stone.

So I'm going to go down the "eat slightly less and do a bit more walking" route. Probably help my cholesterol level as well :)

Its a con - its effect is so marginal its a complete waste of time - take it for a year combined with a low calorie diet and you'll lose an extra 900g...

900g in a year??? lol!

If your obese you could lose that 900g in a day or two and after the first year if you continue to take orlistat you will still end up gaining back a fair chunk of that 900g.

Set against that is the increased prevelance of digestive problems and its a crazy idea.

Youd probably lose more after a hot curry...

I should probably make a few comments before I post to assure people Im not talking shit. For those that dont know I am a manager of a Local Boots Pharmacy and have worked in the industry for 8 years. Im qualified in multiple things one of which included running weight management clinics in a local surgery.

I try to ensure everyone diets responsably. The fastest and easiest way to lose or gain is to adjust your intake of calories. The average male needs 2600 calories to effective MANAGE weight, this is in combination with at least 30 minutes exercise a day. Exercise is defined as 30 minutes not sat on your arse. A walk into town, a bike ride etc etc. Weight management is easily done by a small increase or decrease in your daily intake of calories. Dropping below 2000 for men can be detrimental to your health and is not recommended. Your body needs certain fats, sugars and salts to metabolise food and work efficiently and many can aid weight loss. It really about taking the time to access your intake and adjust it accordingly.

I would only recommend this course of medication if you have tried the above, and I mean really tried.

Ok well I am on a diet of sorts at the minute due to blood pressure being *slightly* high. I have eaten no salt for 2 weeks, drink about 7 cans of lager a week rather than every night having at least 4, I have Slim Fast twice a day but this is mainly because I usually eat nothing in the day so thought this would be better for me, I then have a proper meal at night.

Every day I walk 4 miles, fast walking with my dogs, it takes me roughly 25 minutes to do the 4 miles, lots of hills as well so that isn't too bad a time.

Now what I would like to ask is when can I expect to see weight loss results if I carry on like this? Every pound lost will help my blood pressure.

Read "The Abs Diet" Trem.

Hard to say if you'll lose weight my chum, but losing a 1lb a week is probably a safe and steady way to lose it.

Just monitor it once and week and see where it's going and adjust from there?

shouldnt stop taking salt m8 your body does need it just dont go silly with it. as for the weight loss its dependant on the individual m8 :/ guess it depends alot on your metabolism

Speaking of someone who has been morbidly obese yes 21.5 stone with a BMI of over 50 I can clearly tell you that the only real way to lose weight is to adjust calories. I had to do it drastically and under medical supervision, however now I maintain by ensuring that my intake is equivalent to my output.

You dont even have to exercise although this is good for your cardiovascular health and muscles... just cut out a few things. I do simple things like walk to the bus stop in the morning.. take long walks in beautiful Dutch counryside at the weekends (not every weekend at least one weekend per month ususally after month end I dont really get out of bed :p).

Really you CAN enjoy good food and wine and beer, just not every day.

I'm like Ch3tan and the rest. I eat loads all the time and never put any weight on at all. I eat reasonably healthily and lead a fairly active life now but my weight is still the same as when I lived in my parent's pub and had three or four pub meals a day.

When the girls at work moan about it I tell them I diet between snacks. Really annoys them :)

lol rotten sod,

they (scientists) reckon our bodies have a pre determined weight that it will always be that without overeating or dieting etc was reading about it otherday cant remember the full story, think it was in focus magazine

there were some tests done where they asked participants to overeat by about 3-4 times the avg calorie intake for x amount of months and they did put weight on but they struggled to do so and to keep it on, and when they returned to eating normally the weight fell off them back to there normal size no diets no more excercise than avg joe would do in a day etc its quite interesting to be honest just proves that some ppl really do have to work that bit harder to look how they want.

3.5 miles it is, I drove round tonight :D

I do a mile in the morning as well so maybe I got confused somewhere along the way, I am also not sleeping since I don't drink hence the lies ;)

I got my blood pressure thing from my mum (and probably fags), before this I wasn't worried or concerned about my weight.

Thats really good Trem. I have just started training for the London Moonwalk and walking at a good pace I can do 5 miles in just over an hour. And I thought that was good:eek:

Pills dont sort the problem out -they just 'assist' you, if you are lucky.

I got down about my weight after the twins. I had been to the gym and tried slimming world and WW etc. My problem was a ravenous hunger that I was battling against all day, every day (it began at the end of carrying the twins and carried on through nursing them and then it never left)

I went on Reductil (you dont shit the fat out -it reduces the constant feelings of hunger in the brain). It has side effects -but OMG it was amazing, it stopped me always feeling hungry instantly and I could lead my life without always thinking about food. I still worked out but appararently ate a lot less. I lost a stone quickly.

Then the bastard pills stopped working as my body began to compensate for them and the hunger came back over night!!!! So now its back to battling the hunger and exercising willpowerand trying to balance input and output. Boring as fook, but there you go :)

My problem has never really been the hunger ... I just LOVE the taste of food ... LOVE IT! So I have to exercise quite hard to maintain my weight ... although I reckon I need to lose a good 10KG
