Quite a few of the ppl I used to play UO with sold their accounts on e-bay for upward of £400. Ppl regularly sell uo gold for real cash. $25 for one million uo gold is the going rate. Not my thing though - I suck far too badly to be a profitiere, and I'm comfortable enough with being a lame player to not fork out to be good.

Asheron's Call, an MMOG I gave up last year, had a very active economy outside the virtual world, a high level account could easily sell for $500 and those on the PK-only server would fetch in the $1000+ range.

I listed the auctions on eBay for one guy and he was selling a regular income of Level 4+ magic items for $5-15 a go, judging by the amount he was selling I'd estimate he gets at least $100/month from it.

AC costs only $10/month to play, even maturing an account to mid-high level to sell for $100+ would rarely take more than a month, maybe even a week.

One of the reasons I gave up was because development and content was being handed to high-level players more and more, often more then half the monthly updates were out of my reach simply because I didn't play 24/7, I didn't like paying for a game that effectively funded other players in the real world.

I knew this was going to happen someday - a game with its own real world economy, but those figures are astounding.

If Norrath was a country, it would be the 77th most wealthy in the world, just behind Russia.
EverQuest players earn an average of $3.42 for every hour spent playing the game.
