What somebody says and what people do are seperate. What this man did was rob another man, and 'justice' was apparently the death sentance. If this happened in Saudi Arabia, I wonder if your perspective would be different.
A severe punishment is necesary for such a crime, but if you think execution by crushing and ripping in half is the correct severity, perhaps you such think again.
You can't say it was self defence. The mugging victim chased and attacked the robbers.

Anyone's a possible rapist, murder, surgically altered 300 pound black woman if you're going to take that daft perspective. All this guy did was threaten someone, steal a not-huge amount of money and run off. The very reason you know of this story is because he was subsequently brutally murdered. Stop assuming silly things.
Saying they should have been better parents is very judgemental for a family you know nothing about. I suggest you watch Bowling for Columbine.
And finally, keep in mind that this is an American news story. It's almost certainly biased and warped.
It mentions the suspects are 15, 16 and 19. Have you considered how old the dead man must have been? Not gonna get any older, that's for sure.

For every action there is a reaction.. and if he and his friends did indeed threaten the father at gunpoint with raping his daughters, something must have snapped. Without being a father myself I'm guessing that quite many value the life of their family higher than their own.
A better outcome would of course been that the now dead suspect would have been arrested in one piece and thrown into jail for a given periode of time.
Now if he also was that young, we can start blaming "the system" for not picking him and his friends off the street before this even happend... I could include close family into that but since I know nothing about it or if he even had a family, I wont.
All in all, a tragic story really.

I thought that if someone raped a woman, the woman was just getting stoned (to death most of the times) because of adultery or pre-mariage sex!!
As for that, some may think he deserved it and some not. Basically, it was not something the victim could decide and do. There are laws for everything (independently if they are followed or not) and should be followed by everyone. Stepping out of the law to practice the law should only be done on extreme occasions!!

Justice.. well i guess it wasn't justice in the legal sense. But if you are gonna rob somebody and threaten to rape their kids you are really taking a gamble. 19 out of 20 times they will just give you the cash and phone the police. But that 1 time you try to rob the closet psycho (and i mean that in the best possible way ), it might be fatal.

Everybody gullaby accepts what the report says. That is so tainted, the guy didnt tell the whole truth about the incident for sure. He is protecting his family and trying to stop the possibility of him going to jail. Nobody just snaps and goes after 4 armed thiefs in a car, raming them!, when they say there just trying to get there number. He states he was worried they might come back from them? HAHAH they just stole 1.5k in cash and no doubt the police were called. I doubt even those american chavs are that stupid. Then again "Never under-estimate the predictability of stupidity" who's to say.
What sounds more likely thou is that they did rape his daughters, he wont say that over the media to protect his kids, and he was a physco who snapped. Not that having / watching your daughters being raped wouldnt fuck you up but eh, he then in a rage went after them for revenge. Well he got it. People have been charged and convicted for manslaughter for even more 'accidental' unemotinal deaths in the past and he will get off scot free because it serves as a strong message for the police / the community / and the government. Maybe thats how it went down, maybe its not. I certainly wouldnt believe all that bull shit report thats for sure.
As for the crime etc, ye that shits plain wrong. They should have been charged and locked up for a few years.
