Fuck's sake. This isn't the fucking playground. The idea that they've done this to poke the US in the eye and somehow that's "cool" is pitiful, and you seem to imply there's some kind of moral equivalency between the US and North Korea, which is one fucked-up way of looking at the world. Unlike just about everyone else in the world, the North Koreans are actually crazy enough to use nukes. In fact probably the only thing that will stop them using them is China. It will also have a knock-on effect of recreating a more militaristic Japan, and that worked out reeeally well last time didn't it?

tbh Seeleh, it's not cool I think. Imo Gerhardt Schroeder of Germany saying "No" to GWB/the US during the invasion of Irak is cool. A totalitarian megalomaniac saying "No" to the world by demonstrating he has nukes to the world is not cool.

Nuclear weapons have exerted a stabilising effect in countries that posessed them - everyone in the west used to freak out that the USSR had them and vice versa but thats just perception.

North Korea doesnt posess any ballistic missiles with any range or reliability and everyone already decided they had nukes so what exactly has changed?

In one way its the safest ever nuclear detonation because its so deep - doesnt sound like 'batshit-crazy" to me?

Nuclear proliferation can only happen with the help of other countries - it doesnt just evolve - the US gave its secrets to the Israeli's for example...

Not really - the Iranians are no more crazy than the yanks - they are only responding to having an american made nuclear state on their doorstep - Israel. If the yanks were serious about non-proliferation perhaps they shouldnt be proliferating?

The point is, as crazy as you think the yanks are, and Ill take issue with that another time, the yanks are on our side, whereas the Iranians are not, and there lies the crux of the matter.

But a balance of power leads to stability - currently theres only 1 nuclear power in the middle east - theres no deterrent to the Israelis just targetting Iran if they so chose to (and they arent exactly the coolest heads you'd want to have a pile of nukes either).

Me too although I don't claim to have any great grasp on world affairs or politics I think its important to at least understand the basics of government and make an informed choice based on that. I used to be fairly nonchalant about the entire thing, but it seems like now more than ever people need to start getting educated on whats going on around us.
