Non-Existent Admins?

again cheats escape cos...no admins on irc. I have been there four times and only once has some1 helped.

Well I assume you are talking about CS. Not that I'm bithching at you in particular but when people come onto #bwadmins they very rarely actually do what the topic says, which makes it difficult when people say Oooo there's a wall hacker on server 3, exactly which games/mod would that be then?

I agree with you tho, quite often I find myself trying to get the attention of CS admins for people who come on asking for help. An important thing to remeber is usually many of the admins do not have IRC maximised, so the best thing to do is type one of their names in as this will send them a message of some kind, and then they pop back. I suggest you try this method, as usually it works quite well. In fact I used it yesturday when a blokey came on and noone responded. I just looked at http://www.barrysworld.com/games/halflife_admins.asp for the names of all the CS admins and started typing. Pretty soon both Moriarty and Jez responded and sorted it out Go have a look at the list for the next time m8.

Well I have banned people cheating while you have been on a server 3 times, and you only reported them once out of thoose three.

We don't get rewarded in any way shape or form for admining the BW publics, yet all we hear people do is bitch because "were not about @ 3:30am" and "because we dont ban just on strength of word alone"

I only report people if I am "98% certain" that they are cheating as I dont like accusing everyone of cheating. That is why I did not report the 2 other people you banned. If i reported one to you I must have got 2 responses (not one as i stated), as an admin named Jez also responded to me once.

I must say however that you and Jez are the better ones out there.


Also it is not that I am not grateful. I know that you do a good job and i wasn't criticising you admins personally. What I was saying was that there are not enough of you, and that certain rivals (blueyonder (ahem)) seem to have a much better system in place to deal with cheats.

Don't take this the wrong way ollyitus it wasnt aimed at you personally, its just the admins take a lot of flack and we're also caught between a rock and a hard place.

Admining on BW is a headache at the best of times, we don't have things like adminmod, web based banlists, ability to restart crashed servers, etc, etc, etc. We make do with what we've got, sorry it might not shine in comparison to blueyonder, but when things are being done the hard way that what happens.

you'd be surprised how much work we cs admins do.

zappeh is on the servers throughout the day. ch3tan is to and I monitor gamespy a few times a day to see if anyone is getting a massive score (where I join to investigate).

The other admins are always around, but you'll find most will alias like ch3tan = player, carl1ing - doh. We have to kick ban a lot of players throughout the day and night and most of the time you'll never see us even though we maybe on the server with you, but fear not for we are always around and although theremaybe times when you can't chat to use in IRC you can beat we will catch the cheat you've seen at some point.

I actually got accused of cheating last night on a BW 12 man cs. I was so proud of myself, because whilst I was obviously NOT cheating, I must have scored a good enough total to be accused.

I would say 75% of the time I get called into a server to sort out a cheat I end up leaving without banning as I dont feel they are cheating or it cannot be proved beyond doubt. As of late I have not spent much time on the cs servers due to my crap connection, but dont be disheartened if you go into #bwadmins and no one answers, just leave all the information required and most admins if they are unable to answer you (away,in another server), scroll up and take note of servers which may have offenders in on return.

P.S Be patient, report all cheats if they are not dealt with there and then, their won has most probably been noted.

Hi all, I think the BW CS admins do a fine job, I have been banned from a BW server only once in the oooo about a year and a half I have been in residence here and have seen many booted or banned for cheating in various ways. Ergo BW admins on the whole kind of do a good job of distinguishing between the cheats and skilless luck monkeys.

oh and Ollyitus what name do u use for CS cos I have never seen u ?

That reminds me. If you feel you've be banned for the wrong reason feel free to come into #bwadmins and tell us. Don't rant and rave and throw insults, but put your case forward. A number of players have done this in the past and the bans been removed, although we usually have a high success rate when banning players a few might be innocent and the admins are happy to hear what a player has to say.

I guess about 20% of the time I end up leaving the servers having found nothing of malace to note.
