I would also offer my condolences Trem. My father died 15 months ago of lung cancer. He had smoked till he was about 50 then he had a cancer scare and quit over night. The first cancer went away he lived for 12 more years during which he had a second one, again it went away along with some of his left lung, the third cancer killed him. I still smoke, I do attempt to give up now and then one day I will stop for good.
later.

Keep smoking folks.. get taxed to death on behalf of me.. thank you :)

I've never even tried smoking myself and I've never been tempted to.. it's simply disgusting and costs shitloads of money with no benefits at all... the only benefit is the huge amount of tax revenue the government get from it which obviously means lower taxes for us healthy folk... so thats fine with me :)

As long as the smokers don't smoke near me I'm not bothered...

I smoke Marlboro Lights as well :D

Thank you for your kind words fellas, I am kinda on my own through all this, Samm has helped lots but I need to do it on my own. All this week has been spent emptying his flat, emptying his flat of not much stuff at all for 59 years of living. Ah well, like the song says he did it his way.

Sorry to hear about your dad Trem, sure you've got more pressing things to deal with than quitting smoking right now.

Given that you'd taken the week off work to quit it sounds like you're pretty serious about it so I'm sure you'll revisit the idea in the future.

However, if you really want to quit smoking, and you were planning to do it now, then maybe you still can. Ask yourself this - do you really need nicotine to get yourself through these hard times? Perhaps now, with the help and support of loved ones (and a bunch of geeks on an online forum ) you can give up smoking.
While that's true I'd add that giving up smoking can be very stressful for the first week or two and while there might never be a good time to quit there's certainly plenty of bad times. In the long run smoking *doesn't* help you cope with stress - having a cig raises your heart rate and blood pressure and does the opposite of relaxing you, all it does is alleviate the nicotine withdrawal you're suffering :)

goodness, I'm such a prat! I'm sorry Tremsy, my most sincere condolences on your loss.

as to smoking, I quite overnight some years ago now, and apart from gaining 15 kilos it was the best thing I've ever done.

Hey Trem, I'm really sorry to hear about your dad. If there's anything our ensembled collection of ragamuffin nerds, gamers and techies can do to help in any way, shape or form, just ask. I know there's probably nothing at all, but the offer is there anyway.

And if now isn't the right time to quit (and I can completely understand why it wouldn't be) then don't worry about it. You need to get through one thing at a time.
