In fairness the guy was 15 and on a flying lesson. I would imagine they assumed he had lost control and needed help, rather than a Maverick in his cockpit.

Still carrying an lot of aviation fuel - could have set fire to that building easily. What was stopping him flying it into the nearest packed McDonalds or a sports stadium?

Imagine the papers next day. "US Air Force Shoot Down 15-Year Old American" "Kid In Trouble - US Open Fire" "Have We Gone Too Far?" etc

I dont know if they should of just immediatly shot him down but I think they should reacted a little. They sat back and watched as a 15 year old kid flew a plane into a building. This sortive thing definetely should not happen after september 11.

fs, they didn't sit back. There was an F15 and a helichopper in the air, trying to help the kid.
