Another thread made me think of nightmares I had as a child. I'd have the odd nightmare here and there, usually I didn't remember them but I could tell as I awoke feeling tired, and the bedsheets were messed up and sweaty.

One nightmare I used to have all the time concerned the old man from the Sugar Puffs adverts of the 70's. I think he was also in Benny Hill.

It doesn't sound scary now, but to get to my bedroom I had to pass my parent's bedroom door. Directly opposite the door, in their bedroom, was their window. The nightmare was that when I passed this doorway at night, I'd see this old man floating outside. Sometimes my legs became fused, and I couldn't move. The man never did anything, just hovered outside scaring me.

And thats it. Nothing really scary about it, but it frightened the living daylights out of me for years.

I can actually see how that would scare you witless - I had similar scary dreams about things floating outside windows. Very creepy.

One recurring one I had was that I'd get home and find my Gran on a reclining chair - like a shrinks chair. She was dead. There was a table and a tape recorder next to it and I pressed play, she got up and started wandering around. It was like some sort of museum exhibit. Scared the crap out of me.

The one nightmare i always remembered was some weird freaky shit from when i was a kid.

I would be walking to primary school, when all of a sudden the whole world becomes tainted in red, then when i got to school there was kids and parents etc obviously.

Out of the blue though [or red?] these little minions appeared, sort of like miniture aliens, and they started zapping everyone with their Ray-guns. No, i didnt like Star Trek at the time, so it didnt seem like it was Television. It was a reoccuring dream i had.

Another dream [Which to be honest wasnt a dream because i was awake] was i was in bed looking up at my ceiling, i closed my eyes and opened them, next minute my whole ceiling was full of images of ghosts and scary shit. This skeleton was floating across the room, then a huge fuckoff devil head come out of nowhere, i threw my head under the covers for a few minutes and everything was gone.

Didnt sleep well that night :p

Now that has to be the ultimate nightmare! :)

The only one I've had is a view of me running up 100s of stairs to escape something chasing me. I jump into a bath room and wait. Something comes up to the door and rattles it. I slide into a full bath next to me and hold my breath (no idea why I do it!). Next there is blood on the water (not sure if its mine or what is coming) and then a flash of an octupus thing lands in the water and goes straight for my face. At this point I wake up.

Seem to have the dream once a year.

Maybe you should keep off the Dairy Lea before you go to bed. :)

A frequent topic of "scary" dreams I have is that I'm in a group of friends, and something nasty either starts stalking us or picking us off one by one and terrifying the others.

In an odd note, especially when dreaming from the first person perspective, the one who is "me" in the dream often gets hit by the nasty too, but the dream continues as would a movie.

I used to have nightmare about being on this field at night, a load of crows would suddenly come out of the trees and nasty man was coming towards me, yet I was frozen and couldn't move :(

Holy shit, now I think of it, when I was really little I used to have this recuring dream all the time. There would be this witch knock on the window of my house, and she'd be there tapping on it, and i remember everyone in the house (my mum/gran/dad) all hiding to ensure she couldnt see us through the window. She was like the scariest thing EVER, she never came in, but I feared that she would end the world and could kill us there and then :(

The only consistent one I get is a plane crash. I'm not in the plane, I'm on the ground watching it crash; it explodes and debris flies out and no matter which way I run, it always gets me, and then I wake up. The location isn't always the same; when I first started to have it (about 15 years ago) it was some playing fields near where I lived in Manchester; more recently its been a plane on the M4 coming in to London. I get it maybe every year or so.

Thats because you watched Salems Lot when you were younger, remember that bit in it with the boy floating at the window and scraping on it, jesus christ that scared m for years.

I have night terrors now, I attack Samm, the doctor said it was a good excuse if I ever wanted to kill her.....which I found funny.

Seriously though I almost killed her when we went on holiday a few years back, I was strangling her, I could see her and hear her but I couldn't stop myself.

Oh how we botbh laughed the next day :/

I once 'woke up' in the middle of the night to see a figure of a man with a hammer standing next to my wife on her side of the bed.

I woke her up demanding to know who this fella was. That's about the worst one I ever had

She didn't tell you who it was did she?

One dream that luckily stopped was about two years ago.

In short, chased by some sort of "demon" thingy, it catches me, i wake up in a sweat and scratch marks on my arm, back and sometimes chest.

That freaked me out.

stop taking the dog to bed ;)

Would be a lovely explanation, but i lived alone with no other breathing things in my apartment *laugh*

Ah well, i "scratched" it as self mutilation while asleep :p (Acknowledges the possibility for a masturbation joke)

I've not had a true recurring scary nightmare for a while. Due to the fact that I haven't remembered most of my dreams recently.

But, I have had this recurring dream over the last few years where I wake up on the day of my final degree exams and realise that I haven't studied. I graduated in 2001 but still get this dream repeatedly.

It freaks me out a little until I wake up of course.

I had my first ever experience of sleep paralysis last night. After a clear but non-sensical dream I seemed to awaken but was completely unable to move. My body felt like a lifeless shell and it was hard to breathe. My first thought was that I was either dying or had actually died already(stupid I know). My dog seemed to be sniffing around my face for whatever reason, and I could not move my head away as I usually would. This went on for what seemed like around 10-15 seconds, could've been longer. Then I suddenly snapped out of it and was able to move again. This part is hard to describe, it was like awakening from sleep but being awake already. Everything in the room was exactly the same except I found my dog was asleep at the other side of the room where she had been all night, she had not moved an inch. I had been hallucinating.

I've done some research into it and apparently it can be brought on by sleep deprivation. This would make sense as I had only got 2 hours sleep the night before. The hallucinations usually associated with sleep paralysis are meant to be rather scary, I guess I was lucky that I only saw my dog and not some demon or something. I hope that it does not become a regular thing as it really was quite frightening.

Trem and Throd in gimp suits.

I know that this may not be classed as a nightmare by some users of this forum. But it scares me.
