If you want weird-ass dreams, get pregnant (ok, maybe not an option for most of you...)
Not only are normal dreams really vivid and disturbing, but they've carried on a couple of times after I've woken up.
The first time I was having a dream about how Case had been to see this snake man - I don't remember the detail, but it wasn't very nice. I woke myself up, and opened my eyes - I then looked at the bedroom wall, and there was a bright orange lizard crawling up the wall. I was definitely awake at this point, but I had one of the common dream problems - I couldn't speak properly. I could see the lizard crawling up the wall, turned round to Case to shake him awake and ask him why he'd brought a lizard back from the snake man, but I couldn't say the word lizard - I just couldn't get beyond L. I turned back and the lizard had gone (well, duh) and Case was like wtf go to sleep woman
The other one I had was similar, where I dreamed we were being broken into. I woke myself up, as I didn't like where the dream was going, opened my eyes and looked up at the ceiling where there were 3 burglars crawling across the ceiling, a bit like the baby on the ceiling bit in trainspotting. I blinked several times and they didn't go, so I tried to scream but couldn't - again I shook Case awake, and then they went. That was really disturbing and scared me for a couple of days.
Apparently dreams like that are quite common when pregnant, and people have told me about dreams they've had trying to pick bits of paper up off the floor in the middle of the night, and then there being nothing there, and one woman dreamt that there was a giant cockroach on the floor that had eaten her shoe - she threw a glass of water at it, and it turned into her shoe oO
