As you can see, my current PSU is hardly ideal :D

Can someone recommend a much quieter PSU, something that I can barely hear? Would be nice to have SATA power connectors on it.

Hi Tom,

How about having a look at these?

You might be better off with the 350w Q Tech psu as it has the sata connectors

Also there is this too :p

Yeah I've bought stuff from quietpc before, I just wanted someone to tell me exactly how quiet they are.

ie. you switch it on, can you hear anything other than the cpu fan and hd?

You have to host the image on a url to link to it.

I've just splashed out on the 450W SilenX iXtrema Pro Series (the soadvanced.com link).

And when I set it up on my desk, and MB only (no cpu or northbridge fan), you can just about hear it. If you put your ear right next to it. Or you can feel it if you touch it with your tongue.

It's really impressive.

whatever you do dont get a fucking Q-tec. They have been known to blow up. Get a Tagan 480w, its quiet.

I've seen that sort of thing on other forums, but you need to fill that with foam. It doesn't block the air-flow enormously and it really works as a muffler :p

In regards to the PSU, I would really recommend that Thermaltake one. You can put a controller in the big bay or a PCI slot. On low, it really is inaudable. I didn't get it from quietpc.com though, it was cheaper at www.overclock.co.uk

I can personally recommend the Zalman ZM400. Fantastic piece of kit to be honest. Has a thermistor stuck to the side of the heat-sink to control fan-speed according to load. Massess of connectors (although no SATA) and very long cables.

First time I plugged it in, I had to look to see if the fan was spinning it was so quiet.

Highly recommended.

(review to follow one day :()

Well, I ordered a 300W (or is it 350W) Zalman for 48 sheets. I'll let you know how well it performs (I'll do a recording with my kit, and host it).

I found a sure-wire way to check was to get my youngest to stick a finger and see if the blades were spinning. ;)
