I hope :)

I want to try and do the MCP course as I'm out of work and it'll increase my chances of getting another IT support job. I found this;
Microsoft Learning: Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP)

Could anyone confirm if this is the correct course? I could not actually find a course titled MCP, however MCITP stands for Microsoft Certified IT Professional so it sounds the same?

Thanks in advance

Edit:- It looks like MCITP is the followup to MCSE? hmm if anyone could shed any light on this it would be a great help

Ahh just checked and it says this;

microsoft said:
Am I a Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) if I earn a Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) certification?

A.
The term MCP is used both as a general term for all Microsoft Certified Professionals and as the name of a credential. As an MCTS, you become part of the Microsoft Certified Professional community, with access to all related benefits, information, and activities. You do not earn a credential titled "MCP." You should use the MCTS credential on your resume and in business collateral, thereby indicating your specialty and that you are a member of the MCP community at large.

So if this is the case, which course would be most suitable for me to try? Ideally I want to do the MCSE/MCSA. I always assumed you did a course before this, but I am a little lost on what that course is :(

From Microsoft:

MCITP Builds on a combination of MCTS prerequisites

It sounds like you would need to do an MCTS first ideally

MCSE
http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/certification/mcse.aspx

MCSA
http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/certification/mcsa.aspx

It's all very complicated looking at that...sounds like MCSE and MSCA are older technologies and doing the MCTS and MCITP is learning the more up to date stuff

I would say the MCITP course is more for your purposes:

MCSE
Microsoft Learning: Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE)

MCSA
Microsoft Learning: Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA)

Thanks Dysfunction :)

Yeah it seems like MCTS is the pre-course and MCITP is the more up to date like you say. I've emailed their support just to be sure, but think you've answered this :)

Thanks again

They've fucked it all up with the new 2008 course (which is even easier than 2003 was apparently, load of guys I used to work with are tossing it off very quickly).

I'm gonna be upgrading my MCSE 2003 to 2008. Gonna whack a few other industry standard certs on my CV too (maybe prince, ITIL). Not gonna bother updating my CCNA tho.

However, I just can't seem to be arsed reading how microsoft have redefined their certs. If someone can kindly point me at the 5 exams I need to take ;)

This is the MCSE 2003 upgrade path Microsoft Learning: Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE)

And your right so far the MCITP exams are much easier.

because you will always feel inferior every time a fat, smelly, bearded, mmorpg playing, card carrying, pokémon fanclub founding member swotting, penguin fondling, kernel patching, wiki updating, balding freak with a pony tail in a three-wolf-moon tshirt even mouth-breathes in your general direction?* :)

*please note: I am only three of those things ;)

I'll always feel something when someone like that breathes at me teeds, but inferior may not be an entirely accurate description...

But on the other hand. Oooh! A game!!

Is it "penguin fondling", "balding freak" and possibly "three-wolf-moon tshirt"-toting? :)

Well ideally I want to get into Networking or Server support, but I need the qualifications before I can get anywhere really. At the moment I am struggling with getting interviews. I found in the interviews I've had, I knew 90% of what they asked. With a course under my belt I will be more "attractive" to these companies (meaning more interviews), plus I will know a bit more.

Once I get my foot in the door, I can also advance my knowledge and hopefully move into network or server support.
