and to this, well i guess there is proof, they can easily check the ip's logged on with. ok so if there on 56k that changes per connection, but not drastically with the same ISP and the area you are in. tis possible, just they cant be arsed i guess

Nope - it just isn't definitive... the guy playing Niar could simply say they moved ISPs and hence now have a new IP address....

shame though...

There's a level 50 infiltrator on excal with the name Niar, ppl told me it wasnt the "real" Niar from prydwen, and i find it hard to believe it would be the "real" one.
Just wanted to tell, and im bored ;P

well, they could (if someone is that desprate to get the account closed) contact the ISP's of the IP's used and check who used which IP, same as when you track down a hack/hack attempt, only with these guys they wont be using some tojan that uses someone elses IP address, so should be easier. alternatively they could just check chat logs, if he admits to buying the account then that should be proof enough really, especially if IP address ranges have changed aswell.

not really, yours isnt a suspicious account, plus youve just said you moved. those things are not factors that are looked at regularly, cant expect people to never move during there time playing a game etc, they only get checked if there is reason too

So... how does GOA ever prove that someone sold his/her account or shares his/her account?

well, often the sold account is on the hands of a current player, and not someone new. surely they can compare IPs and see if this new adress already is used on another account?

What about dorms?
What about dynamic IP's?
I use QDSL - every time I sign on, I have a different IP.
Using a router, the missus and I play DAoC on different comps at the same time using the same IP adress.

Tricky, isn't it?

as i said, ISPs use certain address ranges. and that is a good point, if someone goes from one account to another without restarting there PC or reconnecting then the IP's will match. a bought account is not an easy thing to trace. i guess the only real thing they can do is check there own logs and see if there was a /send discussion arranging the purchase (but who would be stupid enough to do that?), the next thing would probably be to look for where it was claimed to have been bought from (say Ebay or something) and then finnaly trace IP's of suspicious characters. ie a suspicious account has changed IP ranges (ISP), contact the ISP and find out the user of the IP used to log on the account and check that with the user of the old address ranges, blah blah blah. the thing you have to ask is... is it really worth the hassel when there is no solid proof other than a "suspicious" account character calling someone by an old nick name. if theyve bought an account then so what, goa still get money (subscription has to be paid) and thats probably all they care about

I'm the real niar, that sold my acco, the exc niar was about lvl35 when I dinged 1 mil RP's and he's full of shit, claiming it is same guy, heard a lot of ppl tell me about it, but no, it's just some fake wannabee, not me.

Nope.. not me, tho I would prolly have said that sentance if I would be playing there ;)

PS. got no own account either, but, I do play Rhodry's mercfil-specced inf sometimes.
