Not quite. Since the family feels the loss of one.

Ofcourse a punishment is a punishment, but taking away a whole family/friends isn't quite the same as taking away one family member.

Now, if you really want the "perp" to feel the sameas the family, you take away one family member and lock THAT person away.

Not saying that would be right, but it would be the most accurate eye for an eye.
