Ok, i decided i couldn't slag off UT without trying it, so i have done. Now trying it with bots, i decided that it was infact an ok game, so i decided to try online, but here's my problem:

Fucking bonus/skin packs mathingys :/
Here's how i understand it: There are 4 offial bonus packs released by Epic. Packs 1 & 4 being the biggies which are needed. Now having installed the 4th pack, and as far as i can see having installed the other 3(had a problem in that i had to boot to windows due to the dam file format), i tried a server, and i just get damm `downloading epic skins pack'. Either there's more things i need to play, or i didn't get all the files from the first 3 bonus backs.

I can't find any good guides to starting out on UT, and most download sections of UT websites are p00. I'm running Linux(as several people probebrly know), so anyone who can give me links to any files i need(except the 4th bonus pack :))in a decent file format(ie not that naff UT binary type) would be invited to give me the links :)

If i can get all the files to play, then i'll just have to write UT off as p00 :/ And downloading off servers isn't really an option as i'm stuck on a 56k connection. One attempt to let it download a 2meg `epic skins pack' failed when i was kicked off the server(i assume) like 70% through it.

Well you've obviously NOT installed the Bonus packs have you....

Download the official bonus pack files in UMOD format, install UT properly, patch it to V436 and then install all of the bonus packs ;)

All will be will if you do it properly ;) And just what is wrong with the nasty UT binary format? Unless you're running on Linux (even then it's still possible) you should not have a problem with it.

Personnaly, going by your post attitude perhaps we could do without your presence in UT servers anyways ;)

I was not reading it in fullness as the lame swearing didn't do a lot for a help me out thread. As I said, UMOD installation is possible under Linux - a simple Google search would have found:

http://ut.abfackeln.com/asu.html

I don't mind helping anyone - the impression given in the original post is one from a player who probably doesn't care too much for the game anyway and would rather spout on about how crap it all is anyway.

The utils on the URL I've located are probably not simple, one click operations and so I hope a response does not indicate these tools are crap themselves. Well, maybe it'll all work and he'll chill out somewhat but hey who knows...

Thank you, that script did the trick.

Beleave it or not i had searched google, i just didn't turn anything up on the first few pages, so i decided the forums were the best place to ask.

My problem was that i'd been forced to install UT on my dos partition in order to extract the umod files, but then i was left with the dilema of having to get the new files from the game-dirs and move them to my ut dir. I obviously did it wrong, but i didn't want to mess up my installation(which i did after moving more possable files accross).
