New to Q3, some questions and help please :)

Been playing HL for 3 years and thought I would have a rest and give Q3A a go

So, I have it running, downloaded 131 point Release and Rocket Arena.

First thing is RA 1.5 does not work, get a client/server mismatch in console and it returns to menu, looking at readme I am guessing maybe Point Release 131 was a bad idea ?

What version should I run, or is it a RA fix ?

Also, for General Q3A, what settings would help in cfg file ?
I have high spec machine so FPS not a problem.
seen odd mention of things like;
a 125fps fix ?
Snapshots ?
How about network settings, I am on single channel ISDN ?
Other useful settings

Most played MODs ?
I like FFA and Team Play style.

Or a good pointer to site with good info on the bowels of Q3A

Download OSP, as it's used on most DM and CTF servers these days, and on several other mods. The BW standard CTF servers(running osp) are fairly busy these days, but the Jolt Threewave servers are nearly allways full, offering a slightly differant take on CTF. You will need to download Threewave to play standard CTF, as there's around 100mbs of maps out of Threewave, which make up most standard CTF cycles.

Q3F Is the TF mod, and normally at least one of the BW servers is full, and is a damm good TF game imo. UrbanTerror is a popular realism mod, and is somewhere between AQ2 and CS. There's normally 2 populated BW servers.

I don't play RA3, but i would imagine your problem is with the mod, not Q3A itself. 1.31 Is what all the servers are running.

If you're trying to run a local RA3 server on your own PC you'll need this file to run it. Have a look at the readme in it, but basically just run the batch file.

Otherwise RA3 1.5 is the last version of the mod made by CRT before he abandoned it to go work on X-Box stuff.

You can always try CPMA RA3: http://www.promode.org as it's being used now in most RA3 leagues due to the fact that RA3 is lacking too many features, is basically broken, and makes it very very difficult to admin games and run leagues effectively.

I was trying to load a LAN game of RA to get used to it, that patch needed for that in particular, not trying to run a dedicated server.

Also any settings for ISDN 64k setup ?

I believe SAS' Q3 guide features some links, and tips. Also, try http://ucguides.savagehelp.com which may be of use. I believe SAS' guide hs locki's CFG, which is useful for tweaking Q3 for best visual performance. Finally, i believe Sar links to a config generator in his sig. Not tried it, but it's meant to be good(surprised he didn't pimp it himself)

get freeze tag. it kicks ass...not all that many ppl play it but if u head for Dayentech's servers u'll find most of us there and theres normally enough of us kicking around to fill 2 servers.

Hehe, I keep meaning to write an OSP config generator as well to allow you to select various OSP only options such as enemymodel colours, hud options etc.

Prolly won't get the time to do it until I quit work and have a bit of time on me hands...

Also when it comes to looking for servers to play on you're better off using All Seeing Eye or GameSpy (just in case you're using the in game browser at the moment)

I have used gamespy for a long time, but recently ASE is my server browser of choice, it is better imho.

Been using ASE since it came out.

Tons faster than GS.

Still not managed to play at all online

Get instant "Connection Interrupted" whatever server, whatever mod

Only way out is ESC to menu and Quit.
It also manages to trash my Internet connection as the DNS seems to get lost and need re-connect.

HL works still though ?????
